Default Bio-markers for yoga vs. strength training vs. jogging

I'm a big fan of the Phillips brothers (Body for Life) and was recently listening to an interview of Shawn Phillips done by Ken Wilber over on Integral Naked (I'd highly recommend signing up for that if you haven't already!). Anyway, Shawn and Ken were talking about different forms of fitness and they were discussing how weightlifting has been shown to be the most reversal form of fitness for reducing the aging process. They refer to looking at the "bio-markers" for people who lift vs. people who do yoga vs. people who run. They also mention how yoga is good (but not quite as good as weightlifting) and how running actually isn't quite so good in terms of reversing aging.

I did some research online and couldn't find much to back it up. These are two very smart guys and so I have little doubt that there is something to this but as I plan out my workout program for 2007 I'd love to have a little more evidence. Anyone have any more knowledge in this area?

It seems that decreasing muscle mass is the most important thing to correct for, hence the recommendation to lift weights.

I forget what I was reading but it was talking about how the "cardio-heart health" campaigns in the past weren't really that effective and there are other ways to acheive physical fitness and health without running 3-5x a week for several miles.

As for weightlifting it probably is the best anti aging physical fitness activity. Also yoga would be good for muscular balance and circulation. I think combining both would be the best bet.

Ken has mentioned that very research a number of times. I too have looked for evidence but have found little. I don't treat what Ken Wilber says lightly so have begun doing strength training as a part of Integral Life Practice.
