| Aloha Greetings Steve and Community Many Mahalos for creating this website!! Here's my 2 cents re food. the best website i've read about raw foods is: thedoctorwithin.com a quickie education re biotics is: Google: 'biotics definition' Innvista.com has the definitions for Pro - Anti - Pre - and Syn Biotics which clarify this subject succinctly i've just completed the 60-day Colon Cleanse and Heavy Metals Detox programs outlined in Tim O'Shea's site (thedoctorwithin) -- and switched to Raw Foods as well. i could write a book about all the health benefits i am now experiencing (including healing pneumonia) -- my biggest challenge was eliminating dairy products -- it's less about 'dairy' and more about 'pasturization' (cooking the milk to eliminate the bacteria -- which also kills all the live enzymes and good bacteria) -- basically all those wonderful health food drinks (like fruit and veggie juices) are useless -- they've all been pasturized -- no live enzymes left what i learned from that site was this. Pretend the intestinal tract is a theatre -- i want to fill all the seats in my inner theatre with pro-biotics (meaning pro-life bacteria or 'friendly' bacteria) -- no seats for the anti-biotics (anti-life or 'unfriendly' bacteria) -- i like this because there's no 'war' paradigm involved i'm using Nomi Shannon's raw foods preparation book 'The Raw Gourmet' which is a good starter book for anyone new to eating raw i'm pretty fortunate that i live in San Francisco -- and i consciously chose to live here because i have access to some of the healthiest local food on earth in northern kali so it's easy for me to eat raw -- the magick is 'flavor' -- here's my favorite staple salad: all the ingredients are certified organic btw 1/2 avocado 1 teaspoon Blue-Green Algae Spirulina 1 untoasted Nori sheet (torn into small bite-size pieces) a couple teaspoons olive oil a teaspoon of Hemp Seed oil some Bragg's Amino's some Himalyan Pink Salt 1 heaping tablespoon of Rejuvenative Foods Vegi-delite Zing Salad 1 heaping tablespoon of Rejuvenative Foods Golden Salsa (these give me my acidophilus and lactobacillus -- instead of yogurt) 1 heaping tablespoon of my super green salad concoction (alternatively i'll whip up my own Italian Bruschetta instead of using the Rejuvenative products) mix it up and spread it on some Ezekiel Bread (sprouted and low heat baked so live enzymes are still alive) here's my super green salad concoction recipe -- i put all this through the food processor 1 bunch Dinasour Kale 1 bunch Green Kale 1 bunch Dandelion Greens 1 bunch Cilantro 1 bunch Spinach 1 bunch Parsley 2 bunches Basil Meyers Lemon juice Garlic again - i'm fortunate living in SF -- we've got Lydia's Raw Crackers and Raw Lucious Lemon Swirls (cookies) and Fudge (carob actually) Raw-E-O's the cookies are basically raw cashews-almonds, raw honey, lemon juice, raw coconut -- 'cause i don't have a dehydrator i've also discovered the benefits of Raw Coconut Oil i also deleted all soy products (except my Braggs) -- i noticed i felt extremely fatigued after using soy milk products -- not surprising now that i've read the chapter 'The Magic Bean' in thedoctorwithin site and just because a food is found in a health food store is no guarantee that it's actually 'healthy' in the sense of supplying the body with what it needs -- it's less about what we ingest and more about what we can actually digest -- i have found that proper food combining is important for me to follow as well -- even if Tim O'Shea considers it less important than i do the one time i went back to eating meat was during the 3 months i lived on Kauai -- i was vegan-raw on Big Island (3 years), Maui (3 years), and Oahu (3 months) -- but when i arrived on Kauai i absolutely 'craved' meat and beer (and i don't even do alcohol) -- as soon as i left Kauai, the meat & beer cravings dropped out -- is it 'cause Kauai's sooooo high that this was my short-cut to getting really 'grounded' fast??) LOL it's possible i guess -- i know there've been times when i'm out dancing to trance music when i'm feeling like i'm vibrating so phast i'm going to turn into light and just disappear -- and sometimes i feel like my body is levitating during meditation -- ok -- i'm digressing here yes a raw foods diet is much more labor intensive -- but once i got the hang of it, it's really easy now -- and the rewards are beyond amazing -- i have so much NRG, i can barely use it fast enough -- i can go out dancing 3 times a week and dance to high energy electronic dance music for 12-15 hours straight (no assistance from street medicines thank u very much) -- walk 70 city blocks several times a week (and still want more) -- do my yoga stretches every day -- oh -- did i mention that i'm 61 and feel like 16 -- actually i feel better than i ever did at 16 the end -- and thank you again for creating your website -- i love the computer age -- this is what i've been waiting for my entire life -- access to timely info -- i'm figuring these bodies are 'light' bodies and need 'light' for optimal running -- and raw foods is basically photosynthesized sun-light -- and information is also 'light' -- so i'm feeding myself with 'light' in my food diet and my mind diet too -- and your site is total 'light'!! love - light - and insight!! | Hi Chynafaerie, i've been playing with a raw foods diet too and found it to be brilliant, when I did 10 days pure raw vegan (with no grains), I felt on top of the world. We (my daughter and I) have been about 75% raw for the last month or so. We just do lots of different salads, eat fruit - lots of fruit (my daughter's favourite, a banana with peanut butter spread on it and I'm currently eating lots of peaches from our own tree), and green smoothies that we make up. Christmas has been a bit awkward, but we are glad to get home again where we can just have a green smoothie and sit down! Now I just have to give up alcohol and coffee, then I'll be about 85% raw! :-) joy to you Hazel

| Hi Hazel and all! How cool. We do raw foods in Australia too! We were in Melbourne a few weeks ago for U2. Loved it and did heaps of walking. Apparently there's now an organic restaurant in the Victoria Market with raw food meals. If you check it out please let me know. It will probably be a while before I get down there again. About 40+ of us in Australia and beyond put together a free raw food starter guide (60+ recipes, photos and personal stories). You're welcome to download it from my site below. I had the idea over Easter last year and by the weekend the framework was all done. A few weeks later we released it. Very fun! I've been doing raw mostly for about 3 years now and am back on 100% raw for 2007. The emotional changes I feel when raw are huge! I'm happy and optimistic when raw. Not so when eating badly. I've lost about 35 kg too (about 20 or to so go to reach my goal weight). I'm so glad I found this forum and look forward to delving in more deeply! Yahhhh!

| That salad had quite a bit of Specialist Products in. I am all for raw food but such products are virtually impossible to find in supermarkets. Blue-Green Algae I have never seen in a ny shop, Nori Sheets only in expensive speciality sections and as for: some Bragg's Amino's some Himalyan Pink Salt 1 heaping tablespoon of Rejuvenative Foods Vegi-delite Zing Salad 1 heaping tablespoon of Rejuvenative Foods Golden Salsa (these give me my acidophilus and lactobacillus -- instead of yogurt) 1 heaping tablespoon of my super green salad concoction mix it up and spread it on some Ezekiel Bread (sprouted and low heat baked so live enzymes are still alive) Well that doesn't even exist in my area! |

| Hey same here Akashic! but all salads are good. I just made one for lunch that was cos lettuce, tomato, cucumber, julienned carrots, shredded coconut, avocado, garlic and some olive oil/balsamic vinaigrette. Basic but GOOD!! Raw foods are just raw foods, they don't need to be those specialty things from a particular shop or maker. joy and a big green salad to you! Hazel
