It's that time of the year when people eat way too much from so many parties and hangouts. Do you keep your weight in check or just plunged in and say It's Christmas season man eat and party...

Heh no, I don't go crazy like that. Then again I never really seem to gain weight, no matter what I eat, my body just stays thesame. Guess I have a good metabolism..) Anyway, I rather dislike christmas, I can't stand the way it's commercialized so much, it really annoys me. Here in the Netherlands we have a traditional day on the 5th of december, called "Sinterklaas" or Saint Nicholas, which is a saint that really has lived in the fourth century. On the 5th to the 6th of december we actually celebrate the date of his death, kinda freaky really, but anyway, it's an old traditional day honoring someone who has really lived and to me the day still has much meaning. I favor it over the commercial christmas, which unfortunatly gains ground more and more, even far before it's Sinterklaas day.. :/ Ironically Santa Claus is exactly thesame person as Saint Nicholas from Myra, so frankly he is competing with himself. In the early centuries the name of Saint Nicholas got known in the english countries, but as Santa Claus (sounds like "Sinterklaas"), and later the by then changed Santa Claus returned to the Netherlands and surrounding countries. Strangely few people seem to know both celebrations are about thesame person, only the way of celebrating has changed so much that they are now almost enemies.. Anyway, I favor Saint Nicholas above the Santa Claus (or Christmas, which actually should be the birth of Jesus Christ) celebration and don't really eat that much more on those days..) |

Actually one week of not so heallthy eating won't ruin everything. Maybe it takes January to make it back but I usually enjoy the Christmas holidays with my familiy. I only try to get my running gear out and enjoy the snow outside and I usually set myself a daily deadline when I am going to stop eating, so at least I won't approach the fridge at 11 pm |

I am in Vienna right now and we haven't got any either. At my parents' place (Styria) it's going to be a lot different I hope. I really enjoy this time of the year even if it means going outside and shoveling snow. If you spend most of your time in an office like me you really look forward to some manual labor outside. |
