Default TMJ syndrome

i have minor TMJ syndrome -- just in my jaw area. i'm curious to see how other people have treated this issue (i just started acupuncture and it makes a *huge* difference)
my lil sister has it all over her body though.. every joint clicks.
anyone ever had it cured?

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint so it's pretty jaw specific. I find it is always worse when I am stressed out. It gave me tons of grief a few years ago, but now I barely notice it, except when I am really super tense! I do stretch to loosen the muscles in my neck and shoulder, moist heat etc. For me, since it is stress related, I have found that the best muscle to relax is my mind. You can get bite guards that some people find helpful; I've never shelled out the $$$, though. BIG THING: don't pop it on purpose- it's a cool party trick, but avoid it, just focus on relaxing those muscles, you can do some exercises with your jaw to keep the muscles loose, but don't open your mouth too wide and generally avoid straining. I also am careful how I sleep, and try to sleep on my back. I have had my jaw completely freeze on me when falling asleep in odd positions (like a chair or something.)
