In a thread on looks at another forum I use, someone mentioned that a friend of theirs who's a male model does facial exercises to improve his facial appearance, and was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of/experience with this? thanks, Chica |

I bet it boils down to making a whole bunch of crazy expressions, to exercise the muscles in your face. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. All of the muscles in your body benefit from exercise, those in your face are no different. I bet raising and lowering your eyebrows 50 times in a row will do something similar to what push ups do for your arms. |

I remember years ago (maybe 10) when i was still living at home, my mother called me into her room one night very late so i could see the facial excercises infomercial. The only one i remember them showing was, placing your fingers against your eye brows and pushing up, while you used your forehead to press down. I know she tried that specific excercises and really thought it made a difference. I never tried it and really dont remember anything else about it. It does make some sense tho. We exercise our muscles every where else, why not in our face? |

One of my previous tai chi/qigong teachers used to teach us many facial exercises which included muscle movements and rubbing. His exercises actually covered every part of the body. He was in his eighties and very active so perhaps these contributed to his health.

I've heard many practitioners based in Reichian Therapy recommend making faces. One called it "breaking up the mask." The idea behind it was that we have habitual faces we tend to unconsciously make most of the time. The face has an expression it tends to "set" in. The exercise was intended to provide more awareness and freedom. Anthony Robbins calls this "facial aerobics." -Austin Jahner |

I remember seeing a news story on this when I was a kid. Some lady went around holding her nose up (literally, with her finger), and doing all sorts of crazy faces. It's def true that our faces take on the expressions that we habitually fall-back on. |
