Alright so I got majorly sick last week, and fasting always seems to help me heal faster. I don't know about any experiences you have all had- but for me it works. So though I would love to do pure water fasting, I simply can't because it really drains my energy from day 3-5 and sometimes more. I am going to school and working at an elementary school....so you all see why I need something other than water. I would go juice fast, but with how much I drink- it goes by quick. So here is what I have been drinking since Monday: coffee with splenda, two 48oz bottles of water with a crystal light (live active one) per each bottle, and water. I CANNOT give up my coffee, so though I appreciate advice- you are not going to change that habit. The real thing I am wondering about is the Crystal Light. It is from Live Active and meant to help with the digestive process. So seeing as I am giving my digestive system a break by not consuming foods....I viewed this Crystal Light as a helper to my system. Am I wrong? |

Yeah, your fast doesn't seem too healthy to me. Cofee is very dehydrating and could even be dangerous to drink during a fast. Maybe you should try some other type of cleanse, like a detox or something.

If you want to give up coffee, get more greens into your diet in the form of green juices or green smoothies. You'll feel much better for it. A coffee / water fast doesn't sound very healthy to me. Water fasts over 24 hours should only be done under supervision whilst resting (i.e not whilst working a stressful job). A more gentle detox would be a green smoothie feast. |

There are some questions about the safety of artificial sweeteners, which might be more important to think about if you are consuming a lot of it and not much else. I had a cousin that died at 50 of a brain tumor that some studies say we have a 16% increased chance of having from aspartame. His daughter is a pharmacist and she told us that she thought it was the cause from what she discovered in her research. He was a pre-diabetic and his trade mark was always having a certain diet drink in his hand. There is also some research that the preservative in some soft drinks, sodium benzoate, might lead to cancer or at least cell destruction. Making a habit of drinking that diet soft drink which contained both of those chemicals is probably what killed my cousin. He stayed slim though. I decided to avoid both chemicals in case our genetics played a part too. Here's a link so you can see what you think. Aspartame controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

^There's a few really good water fasting threads on here that explain the process very well. If you do a search you can find them easily. If your primary goal is weight loss, you might be better off with a juice fast, however. H2O girl. Please be very careful with what you are doing. I have to agree with everyone else in the thread. If you are water fasting, both coffee (caffeine) and aspartame have to go. The main purpose of fasting is to release toxins (like the ones I just mentioned) from your body. If you are adding them while fasting it is counter productive and could overall hurt your body in the long run. Before you fast, you should get rid of your dependency on caffeine, and if you really want to live a healthy life, that's probably your best bet (or at least reduce intake). You are probably better off doing a juice fast, or even water with a squeeze of fresh lemon. You do not want to put unnatural/processed things (like crystal light powder) into your body during a fast. |

Thank you all....I appreciate all the concern for my health on this thread. After I put this thread up online, it is as if a light bulb lit up- this is stupid. Crystal light...not the smartest thing (no matter what the marketing says) when doing a detox. Coffee dehydrates and a LOT of water would be needed to counteract that. So I have stopped that. I have decided to do mini water fasts Fri-Sun. starting next week (2 big parties that of course are BBQ) and I promise to only have water! I will probably post on how my three days without my beloved coffee affected my system. Again thanks for the advice and concern....I greatly appreciated it! |
