Default Which type of fast takes the most discipline?

Which one of these fasts takes the most discipline or is the most difficult to endure?

Water-only fast

or

The Daniel fast

I've never tried the Daniel fast. But I find water fasting to be fairly easy to do, especially after day tree or so when hunger pangs stop. One thing about water fasting - if done for more then a few days at a time it does require bed rest and supervision (at least the first time) so you can learn what to expect and get accustomed to it.

The Daniel fast is basically where one only eats fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and drinks only water. Absolutely no sugar, meat or dairy products.

Yes, but without ANY added sucrose or glucose, or anything that comes from sucrose or glucose, such as xanthan gum.

That's why I said healthy. Also, fruits and vegetables all have some glucose and sucrose. I'm sure you just mean refined.

This is certainly not a fast!

As for water fasting, I did it for seven days and found it quite easy. I stopped after seven days because I had planned beforehand to stop after seven days and found it more reasonable for a beginner, but I could have done much more. I was very fit after day two, walking around in the forest all day long.

Water fast definitely requires more discipline than eating healthy, although both require a good amount. Fasting in itself is the complete abstinence from food. You could try a juice fast, which is pretty much just drinking juices, brothes and other liquids. I hear these are better for weight loss, if that is your goal. Water fasting is definitely as hard core as it gets, since you injest pretty much nothing but water. Just be sure to be careful and listen to your body. Know when to say when, and do it supervised if you have doubts or questions.

I'm actually doing a water fast right now. Today is day 4. I'm trying to break my previous record of 3 weeks with this one. Well actually it was 2 weeks water, 1 week juice. I want to stick with water for at least 4 weeks this time, maybe more.

The reason why I am asking which fast is more difficult is because last year I went on a water-only fast for 6 1/2 days. Recently, I have been trying to do the "Daniel fast" and have been eating nothing but small white beans and TVP for protein, ground flax seed for fat, and two supplements called Focus Smart and Bone Up for nutrients. I can easily stay on this "fast" for 7 days straight but on the 7th night I always feel like I cannot get to sleep unless I have something that contains added sugar.

Default Fast for weight loss

Hi,

I currently eat the SAD. Over the past year as ive focused on personal development, i have felt the need to become vegan lol before i even started reading steve's work, big jump. I felt the urge to stop eating so much. I water fasted a few years ago for only 5 days but the mental clarity i experienced!!! I've been wanting to replicate that feeling ever since.

Now i realize that i will probably lose weight doing this, which is also a great benefit because i definitely have weight to lose. My question is if i went from a water fast into a raw vegan diet after will i regain a lot of weight? I know if going back to the SAD i definitely would gain but raw vegan i'm unsure.

Also i remember my clarity from before but i don't remember my energy levels. I'd want to work out and such also throughout to help keep the weight off and just for lifestyle. Is that ok and safe. Let me know if you have any pointers... Thanks!!

You will gain a little bit back, most likely (ie the weight of stuff in your intestines and also water weight), but if you continue to eat healthy and exercise you shouldn't gain much back at all. Just be sure to make the transistion from non-eating to eating slowly and smoothly.

What is the longest time you have done a juice fast for?

Definitely the Daniel fast. Because if I can't eat sugar then I don't even want to live (I'd rather just drink water until I enter a coma).

1 week, and it was after 2 weeks water. I thought that would be a good way to transition back to food eventually. I've read that juice fasting for 7-10 days is a good way to start a diet.

Would you say that a juice fast is tougher than a water-only fast?

^That sounds exactly like my diet right now...and it doesn't feel disciplined at all... so I'm gonna have to go with the water-only fast. That definitely requires more discipline to sustain.

^I think a juice fast is easier, because you're still being nourished.. and the flavor of the juice can keep you from craving anything else.

Water fasts are boring, and they're harder to maintain for longer than a few days.

I have given up fasting some years ago, it's too hard and the results too temporar. I'm doing detoxes now an are much more comfortabel with them. Foods that rinse your system -that's my cup of tea.
