| So, long story short, I have had issues with energy levels and breaking out for a LONG time, and my mom recently found out she was lactose intolerant, so I made the decision to go vegan (mainly, though not entirely raw), at least for a little while and clear out my system to see if maybe I had any food allergies... am thinking about reintroducing certain foods soon, although at this point the thought of dairy actually disgusts me. I also don't have any health issues, as far as the doctors are concerned I'm fine, so the diet thing is my own experiment. So far I've been pretty happy with the results, except... I have a lot of trouble staying full for very long. My boyfriend is a chef (I am a very lucky lady) and has been so kind about making vegan meals for me, but I really have no idea what I'm doing except for going to the farmers market all the time and picking up fresh stuff. I feel like I'm eating a lot more than I did when I ate "normally", and it's really hard for me to feel satiated, though I certainly feel healthier in general on this diet. Any tips? Is there something I should be using in my diet a lot? Is it normal for me to eat this much, and if so, are there good snacks I can pack to keep me full for a couple hours at a time (I'm a student). I feel like I'm obsessed with food, and I just won't have time to think this much about it after classes start next week. Thanks for your help! |

| How much fat and fiber do you have in those meals? Oil, avacados, olives, nuts, etc are important for making you feel full. Of course, so are calories. The level of calories in most fruits and vegetables is astonishingly low. For example, I had a fruit smoothie for breakfast this morning (as is my custom). It had about 600 calories. To get that, I had a quarter pound of oriental kale, four good size bananas, two plums, a handful of grapes, and a large Pink Lady apple. My dinner salad occupied a two quart bowl and had less calories. |
