Default Optimize your fruit/veggie eating

Any tips for more efficient fruit/veggie eating?

Here's mine:

Eat strawberries whole without removing the green tops. The extra greens are good for you, and it saves time too. The sweetness of the strawberries overwhelms the bitterness of the tops, so the effect on the taste is minimal.

Cook blueberries in with your oatmeal. They get all soft and hot and delicious and the whole thing turns as purple as poi. Then combine the concoction into a smooshed up ripe banana in a bowl. Great pre-workout breakie (eat some whole protein, too.)

Default I just read where

when smoothying your watermelon, you could and should like, juice the whole thing, rind and all. Seeds included. It's supposed to give you energy.
Can't vouch for the taste, though.

Once a week you take your overripe produce and chop it into little bits, then put them in some container of some sort and place them in the fridge.

Initial time investment: 20-30 minutes (visualize goals or something while doing this)

Returns: Massive quantity of fruit ready to eat on a dime. Or ready for smoothie mixing.

This works especially well for greens which generally need washing and can be a hassle to chop and all if you want to maximize your time. Essentially you buy a massive bushel or two of some green, you wash and chop, then place in a plastic container.

---------------

Eat a whole avocado. Sink your teeth slightly into the skin, then peel off the large section of skin in between. Take massive bite of avocado. Repeat. Tastes awesome. Use the skin to fertilize some dirt.

---------------

Use avocado pits in your smoothies. Awesome. Read the health benefits elsewhere.

---------------

And my favorite: green smoothies! Calorically dense, satisfying, filling, nutritionally packed more than any other food, instant energy and light on the stomach.

Damn I could probably live on those things.

When I go to college the first thing I'm buying is a Vitamix 6500. Massive blender for the win.

Pomegranate:
You could beat the juice out of it which will save a lot of time and it tastes good(not sure about the GI).

First, you cut the top off, deep enough for you to see some of the seeds. Then squeeze the pomegranate with your thumbs, carefully. Once you see the top fill up with juice, stop, because you'll make a mess if you don't.
Then suck on the top while squeezing the pomegranate. You should have a nice stream of juice coming from it. Make sure to vary where you apply the pressure to get all of the juice out, and don't forget about the top where your mouth is.

Eventually you'll have to use more of your hand to get any juice out. Try not to rip the skin of it though.

Once it runs out of juice, cut the top portion off to make something resembling a small bowl. Eat the depleted seeds in the part you cut off, and use a spoon to get the ones in the pomegranate. The juice will make the membranes taste less bitter.

You might want to look at the skin of it first to make sure it's not rotten anywhere.

Tomato:
With a large tomato it's hard to eat it without making a mess. When you first bite into it, pick a portion on the outer top. Make sure to cut it with your teeth, don't squeeze it or you'll get tomato juice all over the place. You could rub your teeth on it to make sure you don't squeeze it.

Once you bite into it, start sucking. If there's nothing left to suck it's safe to move your mouth away from it and pick another portion to eat. Pick portions near the top center and make sure there's always a base for the tomato so that you don't have to put an eaten part on your plate and get juice on it. Make sure to eat it while leaning your head foreward or the juice will get on your shirt instead of just going down.

(smaller tomatoes are a lot easier to eat and usually taste better)

Mango:
Eat the skin. Once you've eaten the top half and the sides of the seed, cut it off with a knife and eat the remains of the mango on it, then eat the bottom.

Apple, pear, etc:
This is pretty obvious but you can eat the seeds. If you're strong or have a ripe pear you should be able to rip the stem off without using a knife which is more thorough. Pull out, not to the sides.

If your green drink is not as tasty to you, put in some Mint, Cinnamon or Basil. It gives a nice taste twist and it works on your health also.

Some flex seed can help also, not taste wise but for the intestine flexibility

Good luck,

Don't eat strawberries with the tops on. The leaves and stems are relatively harder to digest, and taking extra energy to the digestive system takes it away from the brain.

Don't juice anything. Leave the fiber in it.

That is, prepare your fruits and vegetables, just enough for optimal digestion, but don't process them.

And eat fruits and vegetables in separate meals. Proper combining optimizes digestion and overall energy.
