Default Feeling hungry can make you happy

I thought that this article was interesting. Could it be that when we are constantly satiated and never allow our hunger to rise to noticeable levels (before stuffing ourselves), that we are depriving ourselves of "good mood" brain chemistry?

Wow the part about anorexics specifically was really interesting. I wonder if anorexia could be partially explained by that hormone deficiency.

I know that certain "comfort foods" can also affect brain chemistry, but I'd never heard of this before. Thanks!

Default Post WW I

I remember reading a paper many years ago that stated that the civilian population of Germany during the end stages of the war had so little to eat that they were in the process of starvation. After the war ended and food became more available some subset of the population continued to starve themselves in order to have the same feeling they experienced while food was unavailable.

Cut back, feel better. Indulgence 101...
Until under-eating becomes the feel-good habit that is.
Then you're in for metabolic obliteration.

Yes moderation seems to be the solution neither overeating or under eating. The good news is that there is a broad range between the extremes where a healthy lifestyle is possible.

This may partially depend on what you have eaten. If you've had a sugary or high-GI snack, your blood sugar has spiked and you'll feel bad when it slumps.

Sometimes not eating for a long time sure makes you hungry. But at the time when you finally eat again, you will feel that the food is more tasty, you will enjoy it more. I did that before and it made me realize that we can feel happy from simple things like eating. Usually we forget that because eating is a habit. At that time, it made me forgot all other higher-level so-called problems. (Because sometimes I feel worried for nothing.)

Too much comfort is not good. When you get too comfortable you stop growing, stop working, stop creating added value.

Comfort is related to having your belly full all the time, as much as with other things.
