Hi I've been a vegan for a bit over six months now, but just lately I've been pretty moody and keep craving carbs, i'll eat over half a loaf of bread a day. I've read that carb cravings are from a lack of serotonin in the body which explains my moods (I'm normally so happy it annoys people). Tryptophan is an amino acid which produces serotonin in the body but can only be acquired from food. I really would rather NOT buying supplements for this. I was wondering if anyone know's what food I should be eating to acquire enough Tryptophan to be myself again? (Vegan food) Thanks in advance! |

"Tryptophan is particularly plentiful in chocolate, oats, bananas, dried dates and peanuts. I of course erased the non-vegan sources. Some other facts about Tryptophan. It is a contributing factor to the drowsiness experienced by many diners after a large turkey-laden meal. Also bacteria in the intestine break tryptophan down to compounds such as skatole and indole, which to a great extent are responsible for the unpleasant odor of feces." From Vegan FAQs |
