ARRRR is on a distinguished road
Default Need help with everyman sleep schedule.

Hello. Nice to meet you all. This is only my first post on the PDSP boards, and I hope that it is a good one.

I am deeply interested in switching to the Everyman sleep schedule, as I consider the idea of minimal sleep a valuable trait. However, I have already failed several times at switching, usually by my own mistakes, though once by my bothersome older sibling. I am planning on restarting the schedule today, but I feel that I should first ask for some tips or hints about the schedule so as to have the least possible chance of error.

First off, I would like to know if my schedule of sleep is good enough for proper sleep. I crafted this schedule to work around school and afterschool activities, which meant no naps from 7AM to 3PM or from 6PM to 9PM. My plan was to core nap from 3AM to 6AM, attend school from 7AM to 3PM, nap at 4PM, nap again at 9PM (after my night classes) and then finish out the day until 3AM. Is there a good way to make this schedule work? I know that Everyman usually uses 3 naps of 20 minutes, but I feel that an alarm going off at 12:30 or so wouldn't exactly be appreciated by my parents. I figure that I could lengthen the two naps I have to 30 minutes, keeping the total sleep recieved at 4 hours. Would this still be feasible?

Secondly, what are some good ways to keep yourself occupied late at night or early in the morning? I have the most trouble at these times, and it's often just because I can't do something really loud at 2 in the morning. What are some good activities that don't make a lot of noise and keep you away from sleepiness?

Finally, my brother and mother are very skeptical of Everyman, to the point where they will often barge into my room as I'm sleeping and wake me up. It is for this reason that my last attempt at the Everyman switch failed. What can I do about them?

If you got through all of that, I thank you. I realize that I wrote quite a lot here, and I hope you can help me out. Thank you.

Hi!

Until now I didn't succeed in Everyman either but I have already a big knowledge about polyphasic sleeping.

It's very unlikely that you succeed when you stick to your plan with two naps. Lengthening the naps doesn't work. You really have to take three. Or you have at least to lenghten your core nap to 4,5hours.

-- Busywork, stuff that requires little thinking. Leave your easy homework til late (just not too late)

-- Writing/drawing/creative activities. My logic and reasoning go out the window when I'm tired, but my most creative moments seem to be when I'm on the verge of falling asleep.

-- Internet. The mother of all sleep deprivers.

-- Online Video games. The quick and easy way to staying awake until the sun comes back, showing up to work late, falling asleep at work, getting fired, alienating yourself from your social life, and repeating for 5 years until your arms fail due to overuse *cough* (I wouldn't recommend that one)

-- Headphones + whatever makes noise. Plug your headphones into the amp and play guitar/keyboard. Listen to music. Whatever works.

If you want my honest opinion though, this may not be the best choice for you given your living situation. If you really are serious about it, you're going to have to talk to your mom and brother and work out a deal where they leave you alone. If they're dead-set on sabotaging your plans, however, I don't see how it would work.
