Lightbulb Distance Running - The Tarahumara Indians

Just saw a cool article about the Tarahumara Indians. Apparently they are extremely good at running ultramarathons ... these events are usually over 80km long and often over rugged mountainous terrain. Most of them run either bare foot or in laced sandals.

There is also a mens health article about them which tells the story of a man who tried to adopt their training style ... he used footwear with less padding and was able to train for and complete an ultramarathon without any of his usual injuries plaguing him.

It all sounds very intruiging.

Default Running Barefoot

There's lots of research that indicate many benefits of running barefoot. The articles you found are good ones! I may incorporate some barefoot running into my training. I'll let you know how it goes on my blog at PuggerRunner--Home of Kevin's 50 marathons in 50 states by age 50 challenge!.

Let's not forget the Marathon Monks of Japan. And the consequences of giving up? Hanging or disembowelment.
