Default 100% pain control through hypnosis?

Has anyone had any experience with pain control through hypnosis? How well has it worked?

I tried it once back when I had a toothache - bought an audio recording which was supposed to hypnotize you and help you reduce your pain, but it did little for me.

Any tips on making this kind of thing work better? Is it possible for it to work 100%?

I'm not in any pain currently, but I have a lot of fear of physical pain, so this is a topic I've always been curious about.

Some people are more easily and deeply hypnotized than others. For most people, susceptibility to hypnosis is a skill that one can improve through practice. If you go under hypnosis everyday, you will eventually go into trance more easily, and you will go deeper into trance as well.

I'm not sure if you could expect to undergo surgery without anaesthetic, but you may be able to more easily manage pain, with fewer drugs.

Not through hypnosis directly, but through meditation: it´s possible to control pain through relaxation and breathing exercises.

Thanks for the tips, folks.

It never occurred to me that hypnosis might be a skill that might improve with practice, very interesting. Also, I didn't know meditation was possibly that powerful. I'll definitely have to learn more about that.

I've never done either one (hypnosis or meditation) very extensively. I wonder if maybe the latter could even help with the former, or vice versa. Well, it'll be fun to experiment with. Thanks again.

Actually sometimes it is the same thing.
Guided meditation can be functional equvialent to the thing a hypnotist does. In the end it are just words to express something.
Don't confuse words with actual objects.
Sometimes different words mean the same things.

Very true. I agree.

Perhaps the main difference is simply that meditation is usually more spiritually-oriented or religiously-oriented, and hypnosis doesn't necessarily have anything to do with spirituality or religion, but otherwise, maybe they really are about the same.

True, hypnosis is less 'spiritual,' but then again not all meditation has such connotations. Hypnosis is often called 'guided meditation.' Check out the famous Silva Method. It's simple and very effective.
