Long time lurker, first time poster here. So Hi people! Anyway, I have been fasting since monday, consuming only water, tea, juice, and oat water. Ive had a problem with my stomach hurting, and this morning i felt like **** and threw up! Does this mean im doing something wrong and should quit? Or is it perhaps common? I haven´t read anything about this. Any help is appreciated.

That's the first I've ever heard of that happening. Maybe is it - too much water? ??

It happens to more people I've heard, though I am not an expert and you should read some good books about it. This one is supposed to one of the best: Amazon.com: Fasting and Eating for Health: A Medical Doctor's Program for Conquering Disease: Joel Fuhrman, Neal D. Barnard: Books . Haven't read it myself however.

Hi, I don't get the tea, juice & oat water...if that's what you're ingesting and nothing else, then that's your DIET, not fasting. Maybe it's good, maybe not, I don't know, but it's not fasting. I know the body can be sensitive to certain foods when that's all we ingest. If I had to guess, I'd say it's the "oat water" and possibly tea. I'm real sensitive to tea even when I'm winding down preparing for a fast. Good Luck E lodestr |

Then what would you call fasting? According to the book I read when preparing for this, fasting is when you only consume liquids, and stay below 500 calories/day. I´m all better now btw, the puking actually helped with the stomach-ache. The tea i use is herbal and shouldnt cause any problems, but possibly that cheap orange-juice could be one. Also maybe it´s not called "Oat Water" in english, which is not my first language.

here are some links SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Health -- Running on empty? The Health Benefits of Fasting | Serendip's Exchange I look at it as giving your body a rest; just being kind to your body. When a condition clears up upon fasting, It's easier to see the correlation between our lifestyle choices and how we feel Peace, E lodestar

Got rather interested to view this interesting topic, actually I have come across so many contradictions when we talk about the aspect of fasting. I have no medical background therefore its not easy for me to comment on the pros and cons of fasting, my personal feeling is while fasting I feel I am horribly short of energy, I did fasting just for the sake of experimentation and once food is taken after this it has to be greater intake than the normal course. So does it serve any utility to us? I am better off without fasting.

It's entirely possible you contracted a virus unrelated to the fasting that caused the stomach pain and vomiting (overactive sinuses + empty stomach = not good). My son picked up something like that about a month or two ago. Other things can cause nausea, too, like ear infections. Is there any possibility you're pregnant? If so, I'd suggest you return to a normal diet quickly.

I now believe that the sickness was caused by a reaction to stopping a medical drug i was on. Which i did when i started the fast. A book i read suggested that you should do so.

To the OP, I would check out what's in those drinks. If you are juice fasting you should be doing it with freshly squeezed organic fruits and vegetables, not store bought orange juice. Check out the caffeine content of the tea as well as it is usually better to avoid caffeine and other drugs (nicotine, aspirin, prescription drugs, etc) while you are fasting. It's possible you just got sick. Do you notice your stomach feeling upset a lot of the time or was it a one time thing?
