Default Throwing up while fasting

Long time lurker, first time poster here. So Hi people! Anyway, I have been fasting since monday, consuming only water, tea, juice, and oat water. Ive had a problem with my stomach hurting, and this morning i felt like **** and threw up! Does this mean im doing something wrong and should quit? Or is it perhaps common? I haven´t read anything about this. Any help is appreciated.

That's the first I've ever heard of that happening. Maybe is it - too much water?

??

Pain and throwing up are signs that you are not looking after your body and are causing it distress. Check out Fad Diets That Harm Health.

It happens to more people I've heard, though I am not an expert and you should read some good books about it. This one is supposed to one of the best: Amazon.com: Fasting and Eating for Health: A Medical Doctor's Program for Conquering Disease: Joel Fuhrman, Neal D. Barnard: Books . Haven't read it myself however.

That book seems very interesting. I´ll probably check it out sometime. I think it rests more on scientific ground than most material about fasting. And in science, we trust.

Fasting is hardly a Fad Diet comparable to Atikins, and im in fact not even doing it to lose weight.

Hi,
I don't get the tea, juice & oat water...if that's what you're ingesting and nothing else, then that's your DIET, not fasting. Maybe it's good, maybe not, I don't know, but it's not fasting.

I know the body can be sensitive to certain foods when that's all we ingest. If I had to guess, I'd say it's the "oat water" and possibly tea. I'm real sensitive to tea even when I'm winding down preparing for a fast.

Good Luck

Hello,
Then what would you call fasting? According to the book I read when preparing for this, fasting is when you only consume liquids, and stay below 500 calories/day.

I´m all better now btw, the puking actually helped with the stomach-ache. The tea i use is herbal and shouldnt cause any problems, but possibly that cheap orange-juice could be one. Also maybe it´s not called "Oat Water" in english, which is not my first language.

Oat milk?

Oats mixed with water then blended. It would be a little creamy.

Hm, I think this would be a good thread to ask this. What are the possible positives of fasting?

Because there are no corporations/pharmaceutical co's to benefit, studies on fasting are rare, BUT
here are some links

The Health Benefits of Fasting | Serendip's Exchange

I look at it as giving your body a rest; just being kind to your body. When a condition clears up upon fasting, It's easier to see the correlation between our lifestyle choices and how we feel

Got rather interested to view this interesting topic, actually I have come across so many contradictions when we talk about the aspect of fasting. I have no medical background therefore its not easy for me to comment on the pros and cons of fasting, my personal feeling is while fasting I feel I am horribly short of energy, I did fasting just for the sake of experimentation and once food is taken after this it has to be greater intake than the normal course. So does it serve any utility to us? I am better off without fasting.

It's entirely possible you contracted a virus unrelated to the fasting that caused the stomach pain and vomiting (overactive sinuses + empty stomach = not good). My son picked up something like that about a month or two ago. Other things can cause nausea, too, like ear infections. Is there any possibility you're pregnant? If so, I'd suggest you return to a normal diet quickly.

The possibility of me being pregnant is very slim indeed!

I now believe that the sickness was caused by a reaction to stopping a medical drug i was on. Which i did when i started the fast. A book i read suggested that you should do so.

The fast i started is now over after seven days of fasting and two days "rebuilding". I found the fasting to be a very good experience. The clarity of mind that set in at the third day or so was like nothing i´ve experienced before. And it made me look at food and the digestion of it in a new, and i hope sounder, way.

It's tough to tell one's sex online sometimes.

Glad you got it figured out.

That is completely false. You do not need to take in greater amounts of food after you are done fasting. You are supposed to come off really slow and gradually incorporate the foods back in to your diet. You should be eating less, not more unless you eat almost nothing to begin with.

To the OP, I would check out what's in those drinks. If you are juice fasting you should be doing it with freshly squeezed organic fruits and vegetables, not store bought orange juice. Check out the caffeine content of the tea as well as it is usually better to avoid caffeine and other drugs (nicotine, aspirin, prescription drugs, etc) while you are fasting. It's possible you just got sick. Do you notice your stomach feeling upset a lot of the time or was it a one time thing?
