| I think this is really amazing. Apparently coffee can extend lifespan in the same way that calorie restriction extends lifespan. I've loosely followed a calorie restriction kind of diet for a long time but I've never drank coffee, I don't particularly like the idea of using stimulants. Maybe I'll have to start. You can read the article here: Miller-McCune | Article | Caffeine Adds Life (to Yeast) And a little teaser: "Scaling up the caffeine quantities and protein activity effect from yeast to human levels, the research team concluded that moderate coffee intake would be sufficient to extend life."

| I remember one population study showed that coffee drinkers live on average 3 years longer than non-coffee drinkers. The study came under heavy criticism for failing to take into account that people in well-to-do lifestyles tend to have healthier lifestyles and tend to drink more coffee. The life extension in the statistics probably had no relation to coffee itself. (I sometimes feel sorry for soft-science researchers who have to use rigorous statistics... sometimes they just don't get it Nevertheless, the article you linked is a bit more interesting since it's a bit more of a rigorous, reductionist study.

| I have seen some research that would back this up. There be something in it.
