| Hey folks, Can anyone here point me to some information on what kinds of raw foods are good to bring on a long hike -- about a week of backpacking? I'd be carrying all the food myself. I'm not a raw-foodist currently, but I'm a spiritual person and I'm getting a strong intuition/feeling/message that I need to take a long, long walk in the woods. This will be a cleansing time for me, and I feel it would be better to eat only raw food during the hike. I found a couple of sites with info about people going on long hikes to promote the raw-food lifestyle, but inevitably they are sponsored by raw-food companies, and I am not keen on buying twenty of their energy bars or special veggie drink mixes. Any hints/pointers/links/cautions whatever are VERY appreciated! Thanks! |

| when I go on long hikes I bring lots of dried fruits. dried apples, raisins, etc. I hit up bulk barn for a lot of my stuff - it's not too difficult for me since I don't care if it's raw though... Also, I bring lots of nuts... so if there are nuts that fit into the raw diet they are good choice for weight/calorie. If you camp overnight in areas where there are bears I recommend you think out what you're going to do with your food. bring a rope to put it in trees, buy a bear proof cannister (easier, more expensive), etc |
