I tend to agree that any "diet" work unless it's permanent. Links for referenced books: Amazon.com: The Don't Diet, Live-It! I think going to the extreme also and eating only the foods that are "100% great for you" and nothing else is a little too much also. If you eating lots of fruits and veggies, mostly whole wheat stuff and a small to no quantity of lean meat/fish then you should be good. Whether you have white rice/pasta once in a while or go out for that steak on your friends birthday, for the most part you should be good. I believe it's about what you constantly choose to eat instead of occasionally. |

Create a healthy sustainable lifestyle one day at a time. This is more likely to be permanent. A diet in my opinion is a temporary activity that could have some short-term beneficial results but may be tough and potentially unhealthy to maintain for a lifetime. As with most things in life, balance is a key. peace DavidH |

Thanks for adding the links, Stephen! Dieting is out. Healthy lifestyle is in. It is torture for anyone on the diet-no diet treadmill. The whole thing is directly linked to eating disorders too. Once people sort out why they overeat--emotional eating, boredom/dissatisfaction with life, lack of body awareness, ignorance about food choices (which the food industry encourages)--then they are on their way to a relaxed and healthful relationship with food. Add The Food Timing Diet book to this list as well. I already have a thread about this diet (i.e. lifestyle) book: The Food Timing Diet thread.

I always viewed the word diet as your daily, monthly, yearly eating habits. Most diets don't work because people do them wrong or they go back to eating crap they don't need. I've only had to diet to make competition weight other than that I just consume healthy foods.
