Default Raw chocolate

Anyone here into raw chocolate? I don't remember who posted the video of the talk at Google by Matt Amsden and David Wolfe, but that certainly peeked my interest - thanks!

I ordered David Wolfe's Naked Chocolate book and some raw cocao and chocolate products from a 'naturkost' shop in Germany. The book should be an interesting read and some of the recipes in there look jummy in the pictures...

As for the raw chocolate. It has an, erhm, interesting taste. Definitely a big difference from the "evil" processed stuff I am used to eating. I ate dark chocolate with 90% cocoa before, but this stuff taste nothing like that.

It's definitely high in energy, but I'm not sure if I like it. Maybe it's more of an acquired taste. Further experimentation required, I suppose...

(btw. I'm not a raw foodist, nor planning to become one anytime soon, but I do like to tinker with my diet and see what makes me feel or perform better)

I've had 98% chocolate (I think?), and let me tell you it wasn't an acquired taste. I ate the whole bar in little chunks throughout the year (the same bar lol) and it never tasted any better.

It certainly is. I agree, raw cacao is a stimulant and it's very debatable wether it's really so healthy to eat it.

Interesting indeed. Just goes to show there's two sides to every coin.

I am slightly distrustful of people who feel they need hyperbole just to get their point across. If you have proof that eating something is bad for you, you shouldn't have to use the word "poison" just to make it sound more disastrous (we've been eating chocolate in one form or another for centuries, if it really was killing us all, we would know by now).

That makes sense. Is there any 'acquired taste' that is actually healthy for you? Usually repulsion means stay away. Our natural response to tell us what's good for us and what's not.

Also, white chocolate (contains cocoa butter, not chocolate) may be processed a bit, but should be considerably healthier alternative to theobromine containing dark chocolate.. Especially an organic or sugar-free version.

If that's case, I shouldn't be eating sprouts, peppers, strawberries, kiwis and a whole bunch of other foods I didn't like on the first try. Those were all acquired tastes for me.

Of course, there is a big difference between not liking and being repulsed by... I wouldn't eat anything I am repulsed by twice.

Meh, white doesn't really cut it for me...

I think Adelina makes a valid point. The weird bitter taste of raw cacao can be a warning flag.

I once had a Raw cacao workshop where we ate raw cacao pie and a shake. That night I had two wet dreams. And I'm 35.

Well, if you're actually repulsed by them,
perhaps your body is better suited for watermelon, grapes, bananas, carrots, etc. Listen to it.

I wasn't repulsed, I just didn't like the first taste - not the same thing.

If I only ate those foods I liked from the first taste on, I would be stuck eating candy bars and nothing else.

I've gotten a bit of raw cacao nibs from Wolfe's sunfood website and liked it fine by itself, though it goes very well with raw honey. The only potential concern I would have about eating much of it is its high iron content (314% RDA per serving).

What's that got to do with it?

I'm pointing to the fact that Raw Chocolate is a stimulant. I seldom get wet dreams, after the workshop I had two in one night. Is that clearer?
