| Sorry everyone- that I posted about fasting only a few days ago. However, everyone here is soooo supportive.....completely opposite of my friends and was hoping for advice. If I did a 2 day waterfast every week will it do anything? What if I do it consecutive or spread out- does that make a difference? Does anyone here do this? For background this is not about losing weight, but about health- and being healthy. Any advice? |

| It's my understanding that it takes anywhere from three to four days of water fasting for it to really help clean out your system. But to truly detox. during your fast, you should work up a good, strong sweat once a day. You can do that either with excercise or in a sauna. Excercise is best because it keeps your body from going into starvation mode. If you are active and working out, you keep your body from thinking it's sick and thus prevent it from "protecting itself" by going into a semi-hibernative state that continues to store fat and begins to break down your own muscle mass. As long as you're staying well hydrated, the excercise shouldn't cause you any problems. This is just for short fasts though: 4-7 days max. For longer fasts, you do need to conserve your energy. I do a four-day water fast four times a year - the four days before each solstice and equinox - and either do a Purification Lodge (sweat lodge) or do a 45 minute sweat in a good hot sauna each day of the fast. |
