Default 30 day trial--cooking

Hello everyone.

After my college finals I'll be going back home to be with my family for the winter break. I'll have lots of free time, while my siblings and parents will not because of school (which lets out late where I live) and full-time work.

So I've decided that I'll help out by cooking the daily meals. I don't really cook that often, but I'm great at following directions so if you all have any favorite recipes I can try out that would be great. My family grew up kind of meat-and-potatoes, so tofu is out (although I wouldn't mind).

Thank you.

One of my favorite aites for recipes is The Post Punk Kitchen: Vegetarian cooking & vegan baking with no attitude, my family is a meat and potatoes kind of family, but I made this...

Black Bean and Sweet Potato Stew*:: theppk.com Vegan Recipe Database

And it went over so well they want me to make it again for christmas.

The thing that worked for me was getting a cookbook. (the one I grabbed was 4 ingredient recipes). I then picked a week of chicken recipes (because that was on sale at the time). I cooked a week of chicken recipes, and tore each one out of the cookbook. If we liked it, I put it in a keep pile. If we didn't, I literally threw it out. Then I did the same with pork, ground beef, back to chicken, etc. Still working on this process, and I have a cache of about 30 things that are fast/easy, and my family likes. The end goal is to look at the sales fliers on monday night (from the sunday paper), do the coupon thing, and plan the meals (tue -> mon) based on what's on sale... then send my wife shopping on Tuesday, and have the theme for the week.

You started an excellent topic Jm4362. It will be great to travel with someone who knows how to cook something eatable from time to time. Unfortunately i can't help you with anything except big support.

Big support=good intentions!

That is helpful too.

As for getting a cookbook, that's WAY too logical now isn't it. Maybe I should though...

Haha I can't help much either, but this is an awesome idea and one of my goals will be eventually to learn how to be a great cook as well. I'm in grad. school right now so I'm doing the eating at school thing.

Your potential partner will be very happy
