Default Smoothest shave??

Hey ladies- Summer is fast-approaching and smooth legs are a must for dresses and skirts. I work for a marketing company and just started promoting Schick's Quattro for Women. I tried it and I was impressed! For once I had a smooth shave that lasted a few days! What do you to keep your legs smooth?

My sister waxes hers. Waxing lasts longer than shaving, gives a smoother finish, and eventually stops the hair from growing back.

Just thought I'd share that with you.

I steal my husband's five blader. The POWER one. Gillette? The frackin blades are $13 for three. WTF?

I'm saving up for laser.

PS: Go Shick! I used to live in Milford Connecticut.

Guess I am a freak, the Quattro does give a nice smooth shave, but I have stubble by the next shower (and yes, I shower everyday, sometimes twice!!).

Sorry if that's TMI!

Cost. I actually think I may look into it again, since like Jennihul said, blades are getting ridiculously expensive anyway.

Love to have the funds to just laser it all off!

I tried waxing, and i would rather purposely give myself paper cuts than do that again. It hurt SO bad,and it barely even took any hair off!

I have tried all sorts of razors and i get stubble 12 hours later,in some spots. I think some people's body hair just grows in thicker and faster than others. I think i have some type of hair growth disorder LOL I have it in places women shouldn't have it LOL

That's weird. When my sister has her legs waxed, all the hair is removed cleanly leaving a smooth finish. She is only 13 as well; so if she can withstand the pain, I'm sure a mature woman like yourself can!

Perhaps you had a bad experience?

Nah, some women are just naturally hairy. As long as you don't have gorilla arms like my nan *shudder* - that would be a bit icky!

I've never tried waxing. I guess I'm a big chicken. I use the Schick Quatro right now. It seems to get the job done. I can usually go 2-3 days before I have to shave again.

Does she have it professionally waxed? I used this Sally Hansen box kit,and it wouldnt even all come off at once, like i'd rip and i'd have to pull a few more times to get it off and it was torture. My skin was red afterwards for like an hour!

I wouldnt say i have gorilla arms,LOL...but it is a lot hairier than most girls arms that i've seen...my tattoo artist had to shave my arm before she could do the tattoo. But what i'm talking about is hair going up to my belly button. Not just peach fuzz either, like black hairs,so many that i have to shave them. *shudder* I know that isn't normal.

It's probably more common than you think, we just live in a society that has a very idealized view of women's bodies. It's all airbrushed and photoshopped.

Oh, and professional waxing is no where near as bad as the at home kits!

Yeah, I don't think she has the fortitude to do it herself lol.

Up to your belly button, that's just like extended pubic hair right? I would say that is not too uncommon. As long as they don't extend too much further, then sprawl out accross your chest!

Too pricey, you need to make an appointment for it, it's hard on my skin, you have to have a good amount of hair growth for it to work which means some scary hairy days.

Maybe PCOS?

Elevated testosterone would do it.

Blood tests and such with doctor would help determine this.

I am actually looking for a new razor. I'm not happy with mine at all. My legs still feel stubbly after I shave . I will have to give the Quattro a try. Thanks for the advice!

As much as I love Texas, be thankful you don't have our summers .

I know one lady from Germany (in "real life") and my bf lived there (military) and they both say it's so beautiful. I hope to see it some day.

I don't personally find hair on women unattractive. Has anyone ever done a study to find out if men generally find smoother legs preferable?

I understand that in Europe a lot of women use those epilator machines? You know, the electric thing with rollers of tiny tweezers that rip the hair out at the root. My Israeli friend says the pain goes away after the first few times, and anyway Americans are wimpy pussballs; but this wimpy pussball couldn't get past the first few times.

Anyone use that thing and not suffer?

Yes. My personal scientific study has shown that they prefer either totally smooth, or 100% grown out, but in-between (i.e., spikey) is only a masochist's preference.

I was 100% grown out when I lived in Portugal, and it was no problem. Ahhh... the Algarve wind blowing through leg hair as I looked back towards the New World... what a lovely feeling!

I don't know about a study, but among my aquaintance it's split. Some like it smooth, some don't mind. I don't think I know anyone who actually actively prefers it grown out though.

I may just be conditioned by "the partiarchy" but I tend to feel good shaved. It's the one thing I do to keep up the feminine beauty regimen .

It hurt like #*!$ around the ankles the first time, but the rest of the legs weren't too bad. After the first couple times, it felt more more like a vigorous body scrub than a hair-pulling.

Advantages:
  • You only have to use it about once per week.
  • A week's worth of growth is not a big deal because the hairs are much finer, and many of them lighten in color.
  • You save time in the shower (compared to daily shaving).

Disadvantages:
  • When you do "shave," it takes a good chunk of time. (It took me ~45 minutes, but maybe I'm just slow at it.)
  • Ingrown hairs. Because they grow back finer, they don't always grow up straight.

I'm still undecided on which I prefer, shaving or the epilator. I used the epilator for probably nine months and only started shaving again a couple weeks ago. And yet, I'm already thinking I might switch back or combine them in some way....

When I was in my early 20s, I started questioning "why?" to everything, and as a result of my questioning, I stopped shaving my legs. I couldn't think of a reason why. I didn't shave them for quite a while, then a couple years later, I asked "why not?" and shaved them. I found out *I* prefer my legs smooth, I like how it feels. I've never had them waxed because: hot wax then ripping hair out by the roots? No thanks.

As a result of my no-shaving experiment, I'm not embarrassed at all if I haven't shaved in a while and go out - it doesn't matter to me. And I know not to invest too much in it.

Does anyone else think those vibrating shavers (besides being incredibly irresponsible in terms of packaging and waste) are for women too embarrassed to buy a real vibrator? I mean, remove the blade, and there's this humming stick in your hand. I can't think of another reason for the vibration.

Carenkh, it's funny, isn't it? When I was in my 20's, I would have been mortified to show my legs in public with a little stubble. (or to go out with unwashed hair, or with a pimple on my face, etc.).

All that needless suffering. Poor Angela! It makes me laugh and laugh.

With hair on my legs I feel like the Yeti. It's social conditioning, but it's so deep down, it could as well be written in my DNA. My sis's worst nightmare is actually to have a car accident and end up in ER room with unshaved legs, lol.

I tried wax once- also the home kit- and the hairs did come off, as well did lots of my skin, and I looked like a plucked goose for a very long time. NEVER again. I also tried shaving cream once and the hairs didn't come off at all but sort of clotted together and that wasn't fun either.

So these days I simply shower & shave.

Default A trick i just learned...

I think part of why you get stubble so quickly after shaving is because you didnt get close enough to start with...and if you dont use a relatively clean/new razor, you cant get real close. But what i've noticed in the last 2 weeks is that if you exfoliate your legs first, you get a much closer shave, and i couldnt beleive this, but i didnt have stubble for 2 days!! Normally i have stubble 12 hours later! I used this stuff called Rough Stuff, its for calloused feet, really, but i just scrubbed it all over my legs. Now I'll never shave without doing that first.
