| Hey there, I am an very skinny male with fast metabolism. Through most my teens I ate rather unhealthy (way to much pizza). and in the past year I am slowly try to crack down, eating nuts, fruits, etc... (I still eat pizza though). Anyways, I seem to have gotten my mothers gene of being really tall and skinny. When I see my ribs in the mirror its a little freaky and I want to get some weight on me. I am 18 and I weight about 145 lb and my height is about 6'1" (or 6'2"). With all the pizza and other "not so healthy food" I have eaten in the past (like I said I am getting much better), I would have expected to be a fatass... but I am not. I think gaining some, but in a healthy way could be beneficial to me? Any advise/tips/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| I've tried gaining weight recently. So far I've gained 20 lbs of muscle in 2 months with fish oil and eggs being the only animal products I've consumed. My advice to you would be to read Amazon.ca: Scrawny to Brawny: The Complete Guide to Building Muscle the Normal Way: Michael Mejia, John Berardi: Books There is lot's a great advice in that book on bulking up however most of the their meals are centered around meat. To get around that I cook eggs and egg whites and eat them in place of meat. I've found they also reccommend too much protein. My muscle gains have been fine and I'm eating ~15% protein. Another recommendation I have is to make a daily nutrition program (it's mentioned in the book) so that you're making sure you're always getting the calories you need (it's very easy to undereat when you're not counting calories). If you want I can post mine. |

| Milk along with lifting weights did it for me. I strived to increase the amount I lifted each day or week. I kept a journal. I drank a gallon of milk every day 4-5 times a week for about six weeks or so. I drank a small amount at the top of each hour throughout the day. As my bodyweight went up it was very easy to increase the amount of weight I lifted. |

However, there's a genuine risk that all the consumer would be 'gaining' is fat. If money is available the best thing to do is to buy the best protein powder you can afford and have a couple of protein shakes per day. Aim for a brand that allows 40-50g of protein per serving. Eat normally otherwise, but try to consume as much lean protein as you can - chicken breasts, steak mince, tuna, etc. Eat lots of vegetables. Take a decent multivitamin. Combine this with 3-4 sessions per week of strength training at the gym (no more than 30-45 minutes each, focusing on a full-body workout of 6-8 compound exercises each time) and you should see decent gains in six weeks, and be well on your way in three months. Best of luck! |
