Default Need input regarding fasting ...

The other day I managed to fast between 7 and 8 hours after my tiny breakfast (a few sips of smoothie), but not without some suffering. For the day I walked on the beach, on the streets, etc., for a couple of miles, and felt tired physically and started having a headache at the end of the day. I drank two bottles of water during the trip. This weekend I'm hoping to increase my fasting time by 1-2 hours.

I am doing this fast and solo walk as part of a pre-vision quest assignment.

Was I taxing my body too much by walking around (even though I took a few short breaks during my walk)? I think that not eating made a difference in my energy level. Should I have drunk more water? Another challenge was keeping my mind off food.

Any input is appreciated.

If you go through that much detox in only 8 hours of fasting, you must have quite a toxic diet. It sounds like you are in poor health and fasting is a bad idea at this point.

Adopting a non-toxic diet would be prudent.

Second, a very healthy person can easily go for 8 hours without much suffering. I think you should get some help with fasting if you are serious about it.

hey bro,

fasting isnt too hard,

i do it every year for 30 days...

sometimes its 12+ hours but in a few years time it will be 15+..

its not that diffcult.

it requirews self discipline.. even if i think about food i dont end up eating.. even if i was serving food... or if i had it in my hand..

this is during the month of ramadan.. so.. its a more religious(islam) reason. and it works..

i did this every year since i was 10 .. now i am 17..

no food , no water.. from dawn to dusk.

any question dont hesitate to ask.

I agree that if you are detoxing so hard after such a short fasting period that your diet may be to blame. I've found it easier to begin fasting after eating a very light, cleansing diet of fruits and vegetables for a few days to a week prior to starting the fast. The "mini fast" between meals is good; you could continue that approach as an ease into fasting after cleaning up your diet. If your diet is already clean you may want to look into fasting on fresh green juices (kale, spinach, romaine, etc.). I always feel very energized after a half-day fast on green juices followed by a good dinner of raw veggies, steamed squash and/or fish.

Good luck!

Default Re: diet & fasting

Thanks for the input, everyone.

I bought a blender yesterday and will start making smoothies and eating more vegetables and fruits.

Should I start taking vitamins too? I'm afraid that my body will become nutrient-starved with a restricted diet.

By eating more vegetables and fruits how are you going to become 'nutrient-starved?'

There are some arguments against supplementation of certain vitamins/minerals. For example, some studies suggest that excess Vitamin A contributes to osteoporosis, and that excess iron causes oxidation and free-radical damage.

This article was beneficial to me.

Break the fast and eat a well balanced diet you will not be nutrient-starved.
