ProjectX, There's a big difference. Chocolate milk does not have nearly as much protein as a standard protein shake. But chocolate milk can have some benefits to your post workout nutrition. Check out the article below: ESPN - UW hoping team reaps benefits of adding chocolate milk to menu - College Football

VacMan is on the mark--I think your friend is confused. Chocolate Milk is the new Recovery Drink (such as Gatorade)--not the new Protein Shake.

Depends on whether you're on a cutting or bulking diet! If you're bulking it can be good for post workout! If you're cutting however you would want more protein and less carbs and fat! Also I have to remind you that even for post workout, you shouldn't be having fat together with your carbs and protein, because fat slows down the absorbtion of carbs and protein which is what your body needs right away. My suggestion is even not to combine protein and carbs, but right after your workout have fast absorbing carbs (raisins and other dried fruit are a very source) and then after about 20 -30 minutes to have your recovery protein shake!

That's why I drink a glass of Ovaltine mixed in with some skim milk--no fat.

It's completely false. As far as his "buffness", he's probably got good genetics and doesn't realize how lucky he is he doesn't have to pay attention to nutrition as much as other people. Anyone I know who works out knows how important protein is to repairing and building muscle. If you're serious about building muscle, you need more than chocolate milk to make it happen.
