Default Panic Attack

Good day all

Has anyone had a panic attack??? Ok, I dont get them often (I have more of a anxiety issue going on) but it doesnt matter if I have had 1 or 100, it still scares the "----" out of me!! I had one this morning where I was chatting on the phone and it felt as if my heart did a somersault...so I decided to just "watch" in stillness to see where this was going..then I felt as if someone was sitting on my chest...so of course, I panic...lol...this weird sensation ran through my body...can't even explain it...like a electrical current...then it went away. Has anyone had one of those?? I have had afew where I just let it happen and I was fine...but then there are those where they stop you right in your tracks....

Hi, mare. I used to have panic attacks and they were really unpleasant! The first one I had came out of nowhere while I was sitting in my office. All of the sudden, I couldn't breathe, couldn't see, and it felt like the walls were closing in on me.

I got treatment for them almost immediately, and it really helped. My treatment involved some talk therapy to get at the root of the problem, a lot of meditation and breathing exercises (which I continue to practice), and medication for a short period of time.

At the very least, I definitely recommend that you practice meditation and deep breathing. Also, if you can't get to a doctor or counselor for treatment, check out Living Life to the Full. It's a great site that teaches Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is a helpful way of interrupting the negative thoughts that can cause anxiety attacks.

Hope this helps. If you have other questions, please ask.

Thanks Maria!!!

Actually Im going to start a new thread because I think I know where this one came from!!! I have been feeling a flu coming on sonce last Friday...but it hasnt come out all at once. Few symptoms here and there...I went to see my doc yesterday and he said my chest sounded congested and maybe that could be the reason I had palpitations. So of course, the palpitations set me off in a panic. Those were great suggestions and I have and do use all of them (except meds) to help with the anxiety. Things are so much better now...I guess when I get tgos epanic attacks, they STILL freak me out!!! Today is better but Im feeling soooooooooo crappy!

Thanks again!!!! Maybe you can respond to my flu questions?? hehe
