Default Quitting smoking!!!!

Hi everyone.

I've been staying a bit away from PD sites for a while now, because of my bad attempt to quit smoking about 3 months ago.

I'm not gonna take it anymore, so since yesterday 22:45 I've quit smoking.

"I have stopped nicotine for 13 hours, 54 minutes and 58 seconds (0 days).

I've not smoked 12 death sticks, and saved kr. 38,85.
I've saved 57 minutes of my life."

Wink

Sending you light on your path.

More than three years for me. It gets easier, although I've now reached the point where the smell of tobacco, lit or not, makes me queasy.

Good vibes! Keep going!

Blessings,

The first 2 days or so, I might update this pretty often.
Today I had a VERY hard time during my 3PM coffee-break.
But as they should, the cravings went away 15 mins later.

I will post back in a week or so (as Ken Nubo said), unless I encounter the mother of all cravings. (lol)

I have stopped nicotine for 18 hours, 30 minutes and 55 seconds (0 days).

I've not smoked 15 death sticks, and saved kr. 51,69.
I've saved 1 hour and 17 minutes of my life.

Good for you!! You are now a non-smoker, so that's how you should think of yourself. Not as someone who "is" quitting, but as a bona fide non-smoker!

It does get easier and easier. I'm sending good thoughts of great success and healthy lungs your way

Thanks.

I think that the reason that I haven't been on PD sites after the unsuccessful attempt to quit smoking is that every time I checked out a PD site, I was reminded of the #1 thing I should take care of before doing any other PD.

Smoking.

And until now, I haven't had the guts / true desire to say stop and take that huge step again.

AND it really hurts when you really disappoint yourself by starting smoking again even after you've promised yourself that you'll never ever touch another cigarette.

I didn't want to attempt quitting again until I felt that I KNEW that I would keep off smoking for real.

I hope that this explains it.

(btw):

Hey Jan,

I'm very happy to see you again around here How are you?

I'm sorry last time didn't work like you wanted. Don't give up! I know you can do it. I know how it hurts to fall back, it happened to me twice before I could stop smoking. Doesn't mean anything. Keep going.

Did you do some preparation before you quit?

And hey, that's not a reason not to do other PD. You're not perfect, so what? Steve somewhere said that what counts is not where you are, but where you're heading (or something like that). Where you're heading is excellent.

Best of luck to you, I'll hold you in my thoughts and send you energy.

Doesn't it feel great to be a non-smoker now? Man, think of all the negative stuff back in the day when you did smoke. Being controlled by something so small, having to fork over 5 bucks every other day, smelling horrible. It's great you no longer have to worry about that!

Everyone, thank you for your support.

I'm still hanging in.

According to Quit Counter:

"Jan - Free and Healing for Two Days, 13 Hours and 54 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 4 Hours, by avoiding the use of 52 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me kr. 172,82."

According to Quit Counter, my physical addiction will end in 10 hours.
That really helps me avoid smoking.

And Rose, your messages helped me alot last time I attempted quitting.
This time, I think I've got the determination to stay quit.

I spoke with my boss about quitting smoking. He said that if I stay quit, he will give me an extra £100 / $200 christmas bonus. yay.

P.S. Lucas, a pack of cigarettes cointaining 20 pcs costs £7 / $14 in Greenland

Congratulations!

Keep posting regularly, we're proud of you.

Isn't there such a guided program online somewhere, to stop smoking? Or a community? Wouldn't such a thing help you?

Not once in my life have I seen someone say "I will quit smoking completely" and then proceed to actually do it. Everyone I know of who succeeded did it in small steps, cutting down GRADUALLY over time. A sudden stop is too much for most people to handle psychologically.

Wow, that alone would do it for me. I am too cheap to smoke in Greenland! A pack is only about $5 here...and I thought that was expensive!

You are doing wonderfully Jan. Keep it up!

This is not at all my experience. Everyone I know who successfully quit smoking (including myself, my uncle, my sister, my mother, and my best friend) did it completely at once.

If it's too much to handle psychologically, you just need a few weeks of preparation before you quit, like I did. People often fail because they lack proper preparation. I tried twice spontaneously and failed miserably, then I did some serious preparation and succeeded.

Not saying you cannot quit gradually. I'm sure some people get great results this way. It's just not the only solution. For me personally, gradually would have been HELL AND TORTURE

It's been 9 months for me! Congratulations on making it through your first day!

I know how hard it was, I tried quitting for 5 years. Stick with it!

By the way, that quit counter thing is a groovy idea.

Thanks all.

"Jan - Free and Healing for Three Days, 15 Hours and 59 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 6 Hours, by avoiding the use of 73 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me kr. 245,67."

My brother took me to a party yesterday.
I think that I slightly remember taking a puff, but luckily I don't feel the slightest bit like smoking today. So, IMO, no relapse for me. And I will avoid going out again after this experience.

Ah, jwz, good to hear from you. I was wondering how you were doing.

Avoiding parties in the first time sounds like a smart thing to do.

Sending you strength and love!

Thanks a lot.
Yes, I will stay away from parties for now. BTW, I haven't really been craving since day 3. It seems that I chose the right time to quit.

Like Rose, my experience is that the people around me who have successfully quit did so cold turkey.

BTW, I realise you were talking in the past tense, but far better than "I will quit smoking completely is "I have quit smoking completely" - or better yet "I am a non-smoker". Puts your mental focus on your new identity as a non-smoker.

JWZ, welcome to the ranks of we non-smokers.
