I read of some experiments where music was played continuously to plants.
The ones exposed to heavy metal died pretty quickly. The ones exposed to classical music did quite well.
But the ones which did best of all were those exposed to sacred music.

Default Mozart

To all those who want to start listening to Mozart, "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" is
fabulous and a good place to start. Really lifts your spirit.

Enjoy

Love
Lisa

This sounds like those Marcey Hamm cd's...when a certain one was played, the plants overnight started growing towards the speakers! I dont know how heavy metal could kill them though, its not satanic or anything. Hard fast rock music gives me energy,so thats kinda backwards

Rockchick; thanks for making me check the facts. The newspaper headlines were as I mentioned above, but I've just checked reports of the experiments.
Correction: rock music (particularly percussive music, eg Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix) caused the plants to lean away from the speakers. When the plants were rotated 180% they again began to lean away from the speakers. Plants exposed to Bach's choral preludes leant 35% towards the speakers. Those exposed to Indian classical music leant 60% towards the speakers. The same researcher (Dorothy Retallack) had previously conducted another experiment where she had 3 groups. One was exposed to an F note played constantly for 8 hours, the second group was exposed to the same note for 3 hours, intermittently and the third group was a control. All plants in the first group were reported dead within 2 weeks. The second group of plants were healthier than the controls which had been left in silence.
I'm not religious and I certainly don't see heavy metal as satanic; just a little painful.

That sounds like something sponsored by the church...
IIRC, Mythbusters showed that plants liked metal. "The plants in the greenhouse with the recording of classical music grew better, while the plants in the greenhouse with the recording of intense death metal grew best of all." MythBusters (season 2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Yeah I remember seeing that episode. It was very interesting. I'm not a huge fan of death metal myself - can't understand what they're saying most of the time and I find it hard to pick out a rhythm ! My boyfriend, however, loves it so it has grown on me a bit over the past few years! I prefer music with tons of groove, rhythm, great guitar riffs and solos that make me want to cry because they're so great!

I wonder if I could repeat the plant experiment at home? I wonder what the science behind it is?

I actually found that pretty funny, especially considering I am huge fan of death metal (melodic death metal actually, where the singer can sing as well as scream).

I tend to listen to music the most when I am driving or when I am working out (running). On my way to work, I like to pop in music that is high energy and sometimes heavy, on the way home I listen to more relaxing stuff like reggae, or classic rock. However, when I am running, working out, or mountain biking, only the most evil, violent, heavy, satanic (ok, maybe not satanic) metal will do. I actually found that I was able to go longer, and with more intensity when I was listening to my ipod than on times without.

Default Music and heart rate

Last semester, I did an experiment for my science class on the effects of music on heart rate and blood pressure. My results were not completely conclusive, but there was a definite pattern consistent with the tempo of the music. It seemed that faster tempo music usually increased heart rate. There was a random observation though of heavy metal actually decreasing heart rate. Not sure why, but it did on every person I tested. Slower tempo music decreases heart rate.

My intuitive position on the results is that fast tempo music generally spends energy where slower tempo music generally saves it.

Music
the way you talk
the people you talk with
conversation you join

all of this will affect the way you think and act, all of them is like nutrients and vitamins in our mind.

That's right, rak but music influence is greater then just some conversation. Special rhythm may cause transcendental states of consciouse. Though while good music can heal bad music with primitive rhythm influences lower chakras. Ever heard Russian either Ukrainian pop-music? This music can really make silly zomby of a human. Though American pop-music can do it too.
