Smile Blog on healthy living, aimed at office workers - feedback most welcome!

Hey all,

As some keen-eyed amongst you may have spotted from my sig and/or previous posts, I run a site called The Office Diet updated each weekday with tips and ideas on healthy living for busy workers in office-type (ie. desk-bound) jobs.

I'd love comments, criticisms or any feedback on the site, especially about:
- What topics you think I could usefully write about (in particular, anything which you think I'm currently lacking content on)
- The layout and design (intentionally minimalist!) -- I'm thinking about adding an image or two to each post to make it more visually appealing
- Whether healthy living is a topic you prefer to read regular short posts or longer more in-depth, but less frequent, ones.

It'd also be great to know about any health/fitness sites, blogs or forums you frequent.

Thanks so much in advance for any help, and hope this doesn't come across as a bit "spammy".

Best,

Ali

Pasta in the evenings is not a idea if you are trying to lose or maintain weight.

Our bodies do not digest carbs well in the evening or night, and it ends up storing itself as fat when not digested. If you are going to have a carb based meal like pasta, make it at lunch, when your body can digest them completely. Dinner can have some, like broccoli as a side, but should be based around your proteins.

Maybe you could give people ideas about healthy snacks to have around the desk. Almonds are perfect for snacking, maybe some fruit.

Eggs should be a staple in everyones diet, they are almost the perfect food, especially for fitness junkies.

nice site.

I'm one of the worst I don't have time culprits.

I'll continue reading the site with interest.
From someone who uses all those excuses, I found that when looking at all those other sites i was just after information, any little tid-bit of information that can help.

I'm a bit new too rss feeds, was your site rss feed compatible?

Thanks guys :-)

Yes, the RSS feed *should* work -- it works for me in google reader... (I'm a bit new to RSS feeds too). Let me know if it doesn't seem to be working for you? I'm considering switching to feedburner, too.

Wrote another "excuse busting" post in the series yesterday ... "I can't lose weight because I'll have to buy new clothes." ;-)

I'd love to read some stuff aimed at those of us who's office is basically their car. I travel a lot and find it VERY challenging to eat healthy and/or exercise while "on the road". It seems like you find fast-food at every exit, but what are some easy healthy choices that are available on the go?

Interesting question, Dave! I don't travel much for work (I don't drive at all, actually, get trains when I do have to travel) but I know exactly what you mean...

The only thing I can think of that I've read recently is Cranky Fitness: Road Trip: Sacrificing For Science ... a really amusing post by "Crabby McSlacker" of Cranky Fitness, about her road trip.

I did have a poke through my archives to see if I had anything relevant, but couldn't find anything specific enough. I'll jot it down as something to muse upon and write about in future, because I'm sure lots of people face the same problem.

Thanks for the idea!

Ali

^I'm the opposite! I always lose weight when traveling. ...Probably from all the speed-walking and hustling.

and Ali: I like your site. I'll keep following it to see what you post!

(My only suggestion is possibly changing the font of your articles. I don't know if you have any kind of special attachment to Georgia... but I would prefer to read something like Verdana. ...I just think it's easier to read, and has a better overall visual appeal. But maybe that's just me. )

Thanks Amanda!

I'll have a think about the font ... I quite like it, but I'd certainly rather go for readability/visual appeal for my readers than for me!

Hope you enjoy reading If you feel particularly moved to rate me on StumbleUpon or give me a Digg etc, that's always incredibly welcomed...

Best,

Ali
