Question How do you stay healthy at work?

Whether you have a full-time office job or work from home, I suspect your working life brings up its share of health and fitness challenges...

What difficulties do you have that result from your working environment? How do you get round them?

I've been writing extensively on my blog The Office Diet about the problems office workers typically face (and I've been giving solutions for getting round these!) and would be interested to hear more issues or ideas along these lines. But I'm also keen to find out what people in very different situations find tricky.

Best,

Ali

I stay away from the office candy jar and try to pack my own healthy lunch so I don't end up getting takeout last minute...too easy to make a bad choice.

At my previous office job, we got a group together a made our own little fit club, where we met at 11:30am each day in a conference room for pushups and stuff. People swapped ideas and progress on their fitness improvements.

Also keep fiber rich snacks around and encourage others to do that too.

May not work it all offices but it fit well into our culture and people that were just observers at first, soon started to participate.

That's a really cool idea, jlogic :-) What did your boss/manager think about it? Were they happy with you doing exercise on work time (or was it your lunch break?)

It would be great to get employers more on-board with encouraging employee fitness -- especially as healthier employees are less likely to take sick days.

I always bring my lunch and snacks with me. If I'm working in the office I get up and move around at least every two hours. (usually a lot more than that)
