Hi to all fellow personal developmentors. A little bit about me: I haven't been sick in nearly 2 years even when eating unhealthy foods or going out with only a tanktop/sweater and jeans in 30 degree weather. I started this 30 day salad-before-meals trial on February 1st and it has worked wonders. I don't feel slow and unwilling to do things anymore, but feel motivated and healthy all day instead of just 1/2 or 1/3 of the day. I can stay up for extended periods of time and keep focused at my task. I still feel motivated today and can accomplish tasks easier than before, but there's one thing... I started feeling sick on the 6th and today is the 7th. I haven't been around anyone who is sick. I am now coughing pretty badly coupled with a runny nose. Is this some kind of body reaction to all the vegetables I've been digesting? On the 4th, I played basketball for a few hours outside in 70 degree weather, but I do that all the time and I doubt it's that. I wonder what it can be?

Everyone gets an occasional cold. I like your salad before meals trial - I found that adding raw veggies and fruits to every meal caused me to lose a few pounds. |

Yes, you're probably right. It might be just a coincidence it happens 6 days into my Vegetables-before-meals trial. Just seems like the more I eat vegetables the more I get sick. I'll see what happens within the next few days. Thanks for the support!

a lot of vegetables, especially when eaten raw and when you mix a lot of vegetables is pretty hard on the digestive system. You should build it up slowly; I get really nauseous when I eat to much raw vegetables.

haha, yea you're right, but I can't give up those other foods just yet. slowly working my way towards an even healthier living style. update: day 19, I've been eating more salad and less of my main meal. My skin is really starting to look better, but my face is starting to get real dry? I thought vegetables added moisture, not take moisture. Is this some kind of normal reaction? |

Perhaps the salad is somehow contributing. | |

Yes, I do believe the salad had an effect, but it wore off and I'm doing great now! I change it up, sometimes I eat salad after meals, sometimes I eat before. Overall, It's been working wonders. I sometimes get a little tired after meals, but I'm usually energized and ready to go. I've supplemented some fruit and water as I eat my salad, now. I haven't been sleepy since I started this. I'm eating more and more salad/fruit everyday and less of the unhealthy foods. Salads are just more attractive to me now. My skin isn't so dry anymore and I glow just a little bit brighter. People have noticed a difference. Sort of reminds me of The 30 day mcdonalds guy; Too much unhealthy food can have that kind of effect. I wasn't nearly as extreme before the trial, but the trial has made a positive difference. I will also get on trial for being positive/constructive in my thoughts, rather than negative. It's called the B+ trial. When I have negative thoughts, I will change it into a positive thought. Negativity shows in our tone of voice and how we carry ourselves. What we really think is who we are, and it shows. I do believe I get a little critical of people and I think being more positive/constructive is a better way of going about things. This is a key attribute of an open mind. Last edited by makessense; 02-24-2008 at 12:31 PM. |

Salads before a meal have great effect... when the body eats cooked food there is an immune reaction where white blood cells move to the digestive system (it's called digestive leucocytosis). This has been considered 'normal' for a long time, however it's been shown that when eating raw food, there is no immune response (they body knows it's food and doesn't have to mobilize forces). Then when the cooked food follows the immune response to food is also lessened. This lowers the work for your immune system and is considered a good thing. So starting a meal with raw food helps make the food easier on your body. You can read more easily.. there are lots of articles about it. I don't think it would have anything to do with your symptoms though. |
