So it's been about 14 months since I started looking at the Vitamix. I originally thought that it was too much money, but during my 30 Day Trial of my Water Fast I ended up "detoxifying" my closet onto ebay and had enough money to go ahead and buy a Factory Reconditioned Super 5000. I decided that a factory reconditioned one was good enough for me as they offer the same 7 year warrantee as the new ones. I initially received mine last Friday in excitement, only to find that there was something wrong with the motor, and it smoked when turned on high. I called them back and they offered to have me send it back. VitaMix headquarters happens to be about an hour away from here, so I offered to drive up to get a new one. So I had to go all of last weekend with it sitting unusable on the counter. Monday rolls around and we go up and get a new one. I decide to make bread with it, and I must have overloaded it, as its overload protection kicked on. So I followed the instructions to turn it off and unplug it, waiting for it to reset itself. 12 hours later and it still doesn't work. I call VitaMix back and they offer to ship one first, but I say no I will come back and pick one up, as I was already addicted to using it. So I make the 2 hour round trip drive to pick up my third VitaMix in 4 days! When I get there, the rep had mine tested and gone over by the techs, and she swears most people never go through more than 2 of them, so I must be some sort of anomaly. Normally I would be pissed and want my money back, but now that I have one, I don't want to give it up. I been using it 2 or more times per day! Today I made curried carrot soup with lentils and a batch of roasted red pepper hummus and it took like 15 minutes from prep to table. Made pizza sauce and dough in that same amount of time. I make at least one smoothie a day, and I dont think I have really even started getting everything out of it yet. This thing would make it a ton easier to eat vegan on a regular basis. My friend was making fun of me because I could have gotten an Xbox 360 for what I paid for the VitaMix, but man, this was a much better purchase. |
