As a college student, one thing that I never seemed to have enough of was energy--in particular mental energy. In the past I have noticed that I would go strong for a week or maybe even two at the start of a semester and then by the time the first set of exams comes around I would be completely spent. I am looking for ways to put myself in a situation where I have an excess of mental energy rather than a deficit. Should help: * I would usually get about eight hours of sleep each night. * I drink about 8 glasses of water a day. * I take Ultra Mega Gold multivitamins daily. Not sure: * I usually eat three times a day: one large meal, one small meal and a snack. * I tend to study with driving monotonous techno/electronica music. * Most of my studying happens either in the afternoon or evening. To best describe the brain drain that I feel very strongly after a week or so of classes is to say that it feels like my book is literally draining my mental energy to a point where I feel like I need to go to sleep. I would then find myself re-reading passages and feeling a general sense of confusion and inefficiency. This would frequently take about 5 - 10 minutes to start happening. |

It’s been a long time since my studies, but one thing that always helped me is exercise. I used to play squash and the total physical exhaustion after a game helped me keeping a clear head every day. I find it important that you do something to take your mind of studying. Nowadays I keep fit doing Yoga, Hot Yoga that is. I practise 3-5 times a week and for 1.5 hours I am in a completely different world. Coming home afterwards I feel completely refreshed and can go back to work. Hope that helps
