I have decided to do a ten day Lemonade Fast to start off the new year. The morning of 2008 I will begin, and will be sure keep all of you apprised during those ten days. The above blog link is not mine, I simply found it to be a good resource and hope that if anyone else is interested in doing a Lemonade Fast they may follow what i found to be of help. |

| Day 1 Happy 2008! I started off a little late preparing my batch this morning, but had a one gallon jug filled by nine o'clock to last me the day; so, not too bad. The recipe for my gallon jug was five lemons, ten cups of water, one teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 1 1/4 cup of grade A maple syrup. After prepping the lemonade I made a saltwater flush drink which consists of one quart of water and two teaspoons of uniodized sea salt. Note to self for tomorrow: use lukewarm water! (salty cold water is very nasty). The drink went down without a hitch, even though it was very gross; I used to sail, so ingesting salty water isn't something completely foreign to me. After about twenty to thirty minutes (its fifteen for some people) I needed to use the restroom and was amazed at what came out. *warning, this is not talk for the table* It gave me diaheria which was VERY dark brown (black because it was so thick in the center of the toilet bowl). My innards felt strangely good after expelling; a good sign. Then I had a glass of my lemonade! It tastes good, mild but not too much of anything, however, the Cayenne pepper sure does give it to me. All in all, a very good start to the lemonade fast! Tomorrow and the day after will be the toughest, I think, with hunger pains. |

| Day 2 I prepared my lemonade batch the night before so I wouldn't have to do it in the morning before work. Last night I was feeling pretty hungry, but, this morning it isn't so bad; it might get worse as the day progresses. The herbal laxative I took last night worked well this morning - I didn't have to use the restroom till I got to work though; then I did the salt water flush around 9 o'clock here at work which made me need the restroom again about 20-30 minutes later. What comes out is still no where near the clearness of what goes in; so I am definitely still passing junk out. My urine looks very clean though - probably the most hydrated I have been in a while. I feel energetic and light - which is a nice feeling. We will see what the rest of the day holds. |

| Day 3 Last night wasn't too bad, a little bit of hunger but nothing I couldn't handle. Sense of smell is much more acute now than when I started this. I woke up this morning feeling very snappy and alert, which is a first for me; I rarely ever felt alert and snappy after a night of sleep. My sleep last night was very deep and restful. Right now, I feel a bit hungry, but the feeling is more like "my stomach is empty therefore I feel like I need to put something in it" rather than an actual enzyme trigger. No doubt my experience with wilderness survival is assisting me with this fast, mentally it is no problem to ignore my hunger and at this point my body feels like it is accustomed to the lemonade for sustenance. I also feel calmer than usual, while my movement has always been mellow, my state of mind feels to be on the same level now. |

| Day 4 Nothing too exciting to report about today regarding the fast... I am still expelling stuff in the morning after the herbal laxatives and salt water flush - it isn't very solid though, it is more like sand in water (not mud, if you know what I mean). Feeling good though, alert and energetic, a little hunger here and there which is easily sated with a few small cups of the lemonade. I am definitely a bit thinner - seems most of it is just from the lack of 'stuff' within my innards. Cravings only seem to happen when I think about food - it is causing me to notice the enormous amount of advertisements about food that I see everywhere. I can't wait to have Tempura.... |

I skipped yesterday's post because I was out snowboarding all day - which was an interesting experience considering I have had no food in the last six days! My energy levels were noticeably lower (I fatigued quickly) than when I am on a normal food diet, but, my body seemed to keep up with the fun I was having. I didn't expel anything today, I didn't take any of the laxatives or saltwater. Feeling kind of hungry and getting pretty tired of the lemonade.... Soon I will be coming off of it... |

The reason that the lemonade diet is gross is because your body is telling you not to do it. See this short article on the lemonade diet and what it says about the SWF (single white female or salt water flush).
