I used to go to bed by 10:30PM and wake up at 5:30AM. Everything was fine until I took night classes this semester. My schedule has completely changed. For example, on thursdays I come back from classes at around 9:30PM. After fixing something to eat, doing some home work, I go beyond 11:00PM. And today it happened. I missed my monday morning class which starts at 10 by waking up at 10:08AM. Last night or I should say this morning, I slept around 3. The problem was that I could not sleep because I have lost my sleeping pattern. I would like to come back to when I use to sleep early and wake up early. How can I do that? When I go to bed early, I just can't fall asleep |

Dont worry. Relax. All you need to do is train your body back to its old routine. Decide what time you want to wake up and what time you want to go to bed. I know that it might be hard to sleep at the specified time but you can train to wake up at the right time. Soon your body will adapt. Meditating while lying in the bed can take you to a relaxed state which will soon lead to a sleep state. You do that relaxig your body with your breath - long and deep breaths to normal breaths. You can also take a shower before going to bed. Dont eat right before bed at this time. Atleast not too heavy food. Try to adjust your daily schedule accordingly. If you have an evening class, carry a meal with you so that you can eat it before the class. Its just a matter of time before your body adapts to the new routine. |

In fact, I have a bad sleeping habits now too. Because I am a "night" guy and can only concentrate on my studies at night. I usually study from 12am to 6am in the morning during these 1 month for my exams periods. Luckily my 1st 2 papers are in the afternoon. Yes! I have trouble changing my bio clock too cos' now I am too used to this night owl timing. After exams, I will train my body to sleep at normal timing. It's tough initially, cos' you can't fall asleep. But normally within one week, I can get back to my old state. It's just a matter of time and "training". |

Steve has a great article about becoming an early riser that hits spot on. No matter what time you go to sleep, make yourself get up at the same time every day without fail. Eventually your body will adjust, and you will find yourself tired earlier in the evening and as a result you'll have no problem getting to sleep at an earlier hour.
