Default Sandbag Exercising

This thread is dedicated to sandbag exercising. As far as I can tell, sandbag exercising is probably the most functional, fun and economical style of exercise to quickly get in great shape with, whether you are just starting out or already in very good physical condition.

This thread will probably run for at least a few months with periodic updates, and will be pretty experimental since I've never actually done sandbag exercises before; I've just read up on them a lot.

Its been about a year or so since I figured out that Olympic style lifts and one legged squats are the best functional exercises overall but I've been almost completely remiss in practicing them.

Lately, I've realized that I'm never going to make daily exercise a habit unless I find a way to make it truly fun instead of just functional. Gyms just don't appeal to me much, I'd much rather be outdoors and generally I want to feel like I'm playing a game rather than doing a chore when I work out.

Comments welcome, and wish me luck!

I did some running around on lunch today and picked up a few things based on this article.

I definitely broke the $10 mark but everything was still pretty reasonable so far:
  • All-purpose sand (70 lbs): $6.29
  • 1 Gallon Hefty brand freezer bags (60 bags): $6.50
  • 2 Small canvas tool bags: $9.94

Good luck, Dan! I agree that exercise needs to be fun to enable us to really stay dedicated. Gyms are not for me. Went ONE time and all those people sweating and exhaling in one place just turned me off

Anyway, I'll take the great outdoors anytime! Hope this works for you!

yep. I make myself do the gym when I haven't been getting enough of a workout otherwise but would MUCH rather be *doing something* fun or productive that just happens to work my muscles.

Good luck! Definitely let us know how the sandbags work out - (heh).
