Default The Diet Cure Questionnaire

DC Questionnaire for Website

I'm curious as to whether anyone's read The Diet Cure, and as long as we're on the subject, I figured I'd post the questionnaire... I guess I'm just curious as to whether I'm just freakishly unhealthy or what? lol

Here are my scores:
1. Is depleted brain chemistry the problem?
Total Score ___35_____ If your score is over 10, please turn to chapter 1.

2. Are you suffering because of low-calorie dieting?
Total Score ____27_____ If your score is over 12, please turn to chapter 2.

3. Are you struggling with blood sugar instability and stress?
Total Score ____40____ If your score is over 12, please turn to chapter 3.

4. Do you have unrecognized low thyroid function?
Total Score ____21____ If your score is over 15, please turn to chapter 4.

5. Are you addicted to foods you are actually allergic to?
Total Score ____30____ If your score is over 12, please turn to chapter 5.

6. Are your hormones unbalanced?
Total Score _____17____ If your score is over 6, please turn to chapter 6.

7. Do you have yeast overgrowth triggered by anti-biotics, cortisone, or birth control pills?
Total Score ____29____ If your score is over 13, please turn to chapter 7.

8. Do you have fatty acid deficiency?
Total Score _____11_____ If your score is over 12, please turn to chapter 8.

So anyways... I've been reading the book and it's very good. The author has a clinic in which she treats people with alcoholism and eating disorders (and a lot of other stuff, but her focus is on those things I believe).

The book explains what is/can be behind various symptoms and tells you what supplements you can take to help your balance your body, which allows it to work properly and heal itself. Good times. (I would caution that one should use a drug interaction checker or talk to a pharmacist about combining each supplement they want to take with their medication(s) if they take anything.)

Beware of Pseudo Science with number games - the marketing trick is to outsmart you and trigger your fears. A diet full of fresh veg fruit lean protein olive oil is the best diet in the world. Vitamins are also a major market con at the moment - the outsmart game is that you eat all the bad stuff and buy all the synthetic vitamins and books and then search the internet for what your grandmother could have told you for free. In effect nutrients are replaced with phoney products.

Did you take the questionnaire? I'm guessing you wouldn't score high on any of sections. I've had dozens of people take this, and only a few have scored high on more than one or two sections, and most people didn't score high on any of them (though in all fairness, most were young adults).

People who eat "fresh veg fruit lean protein olive oil" and have a healthy lifestyle most likely won't end up in the position where they need to take supplements to get their bodies balanced again... people who aren't in too bad a shape can switch to a diet "full of fresh veg fruit lean protein olive oil" and end up in good shape in not too long.

However, people who are in pretty bad shape probably have a hard enough time just functioning. It's sort of hard to put that much effort into eating (much less exercising) when getting to work on time or trying maintain a reasonable weight or concentrating long enough to do your job properly or whatever takes all you've got.

This book isn't for people who are already healthy, and it isn't for people who are a little unhealthy, but not too far off. It's aimed at people who are unhealthy, unhealthy enough that it's causing them real problems in their lives. The questionnaire is designed to give people an idea of where they're at.

Well I did it and my scores were pretty bad too!
35, 18, 22, 25, 16, 18, 19, 11...

I find it hard to believe that more people don't score highly. I don't think I'm that unhealthy compared to other people, although I am overweight.

I've done this a couple times in the past, and both times I saw very definite improvement in my condition. The first time I went from being totally exhausted all day long every day, not even able to sit upright for more than a few minutes (and the doctors had no idea what was wrong with me), to being able to work again.

The second time I wasn't in nearly as bad a condition, but I did see significant improvement. Among the areas in which I saw improvement, I lost weight (not a lot, but a noticeable amount) and stopped craving alcohol/sugar/caffeine in the evenings (because my blood sugar had stabilized, and no I'm not diabetic).

Both times I stopped taking most of the supplements after the bottles were gone, only buying new bottles of a few of the supplements. The book recommends that you stop taking many of them once you've seen improvement (again, they help to restore balance in your body... if you take them when you're already reasonably balanced they won't do any good and may even cause you to become unbalanced). Some you should keep taking, such as essential fatty acids, specifically if your ancestors were from cold climates and/or lived off fish.

And the book doesn't only recommend that you take supplements, though that is a large part of the solution in many cases. It also recommends that you eat a lot (of the right kinds of food, which it explains), that you eat a large breakfast within an hour of waking, and that you avoid specific foods if you show symptoms of being allergic/sensitive to them (such as dairy, gluten, etc.). And one of the most valuable (to me) things it stresses is to throw away your scale and to realize that todays standards for what a "healthy" weight is are not healthy. Check out the image at the top right of the page: About The DIET CURE Book

So anyways, I specifically recommend the book to people who crave alcohol, who have eating disorders, who have serious problems with fatigue/exhaustion, and who have a history of fad and/or "yo yo" dieting.

That quiz is extremely subjective. I admittedly didn't take the time to do it, but there would be no way to get an objective evalution of yourself with the way those questions are worded. What is "difficult to get going in the morning" anyway? I could come up with a hundred different justifications to answer either yes or no on that. The same is true for everything else. I have to agree with robertanthony that it's a marketing gimmick intended to get you to buy the book.

This isn't to say anything about the book itself, but I wouldn't pay any attention to the results of that quiz.

I agree that people shouldn't buy the book based on their results. I was just curious.
