| Calculate your BMI - Standard BMI Calculator it depends on body type, etc. You can't give a definite answer from the figures you gave alone. according to BMI you're at the lower end of the "normal" range. Obviously if you weight 127 lbs you don't have a lot of muscle mass. Decide for yourself whether or not this matters to you - if it doesn't, then it's quite possible that your current weight, or only a slight increase, is fine. |

| If its really what you want to do, and you honestly don't have an idea how to do it, join a weightlifting, or powerlifting club. Find a really good one, you'll learn heaps, find a bad one, you'll be developing injuries. Be prudent, see how many older guys are around, and what shape they are in, and what injuries they have. You are at the perfect age to boost muscle growth reasonably quickly. If you can afford it, get a top personal trainer. You'll learn heaps. Same thing, request to see actual results. Make sure you find one that has actually built smaller guys into big, strong guys. Healthy big, strong guys. Its totally different than whittling pounds of fat off people who are predisposed to size anyway. Most people spend years around health studio's and gyms, learning really slowly. Most fitness center employees haven't got much idea about building up, and developing strength. Neither have a lot of people who are naturally big and strong. And people who rely on steroids, growth hormone, insulin, uppers, diuretics, estrogen blockers, pain blockers and the like haven't either, despite their endless claims that it just gives the 'finishing touches'. Otherwise, learn to squat properly and safely, ditto deadlift, hyperextension, chins, dips and hanging ab work. Plan your workouts around them. This will simultaneously help you develop a grip...its paramount to functional strength. Learn about recovery. Eat smallish, regular nutritious meals. 6 - 12 times a day, including just before bed. Get enough fat and protein, as well as healthy carbs for energy. Remember, the more you want to weigh, the more you'll have to eat. Stick at it consistently, and in a two or three years, you'll be set for life. If you look through some of the previous threads in this forum, there's heaps of specific info. |
