Default My sleep schedule

Lately I've noticed my 'perfect' wake-up time is around 5:00AM to 5:30AM. In this time interval, I wake up easily, and I don't feel groggy or sleepy at those times. The only thing keeping me in bed is the thought "Hmm maybe it's a bit too early", but tomorrow I think I'll get up right away.

The thing is that with this waking-up time, I don't get a lot of sleep at all. I usually go to bed around midnight, or later. Is it healthy to wake up that early, and to sleep aproximately 5 to 4 hours a day?

You probably need to go to bed earlier if you want to consistently get up at that time.

Sleep requirements are different with everyone... but most people need 6-8.

just keep setting your alarm for that hour and your body will tell you when/if you need to go to bed earlier. Keep an eye on your productivity, clarity of mind, general fatigue, etc.

I'd suggest you read up on sleep cycles and perhaps bi phasic sleep.
The consensus seems to be that we sleep in 90 minute cycles (give or take 10 minutes). At the end of each cycle we are just below the threshold of waking. If you can wake at the end of a cycle you generally wake more refreshed than if you wake in the middle of the cycle.
There's a whole load of information on alpha waves, delta waves and rem sleep but it's probably best you read up on it yourself, draw your own conclusions and experiment yourself.
I generally nap 9pm-10:30pm and then sleep 2:30am to 7am.

Everyone can survive on different amounts of sleep... you shoudl be able to tell when you haven't had enough...

If you can function properly on 4-5 hours, then you are one lucky man.... you have so much more time to get things done than the rest of us!!!

Everyone is different and therefore needs different amounts of sleep. Some people can do fine on 4-5 hours, but I think most would probably need between 6-8. What you need to do is just consciously try a few different amounts over a set amount of time (eg a week) and see what one suits you best.

Peter

ps it's good to see another early riser. Some people think we're crazy but it has changed my life.
