Default TMJ disorder

I am 17 years old and have Tmj disorder in my right jaw. As a result, my chin and jawline have become slightly asymmetrical. I have had the chiropractor adjust it a few time, but no permanent relief/fix has occured.

What can I do? This is so painful!

Hi, Leetx.

I'd wish the pain right out of you, if I could.
It sounds like you have a situation on your hands. Do you know what the standard treatment for this disorder is?

I have mild TMJ, but my SIL had her jaw reset for hers. Painful, but so worth it.

Have you thought about having a dentist fit you with a nightguard? That might help with the TMJ progressing.

This site could provide some useful info for your... here's an excerpt...

"The etiology and pathogenesis of TMDs are still unclear, and clinicians frequently experience difficulty in differentiating TMDs from other craniofacial pain conditions or neuromuscular disturbances as well as in managing the many patients who present with these conditions. Perhaps not surprisingly then, there has evolved a plethora of diagnostic aids and therapeutic approaches directed at dental clinicians and specialists and advocated with their traditional training in mind, namely that they should be able to "treat what they see." Practitioners called upon to deal with TMDs often may also "see what they treat" and use clinical approaches with which they are comfortable but which have little if any foundation in scientific fact. As a consequence, the field of "TMJ" is currently characterized by a variety of concepts and approaches, many of which have little scientific basis, regarding how best to diagnose TMDs and how best to treat them."

I am a chiropractor and I have found that people with temporo-mandibular disorder usually have excessive muscular tension in the neck and upper shoulder areas... anything that will reduce that tension would help...

The very best of luck to you...
