Shamou Banned?

I apologize if I am intruding into personal affairs of anyone within the forums. I was just wondering what he did to get kicked out?

I was just shocked to find out he was banned, as he made the most posts and always made everyone feel welcome here.

Gordon 08-02-2007 10:27 AM

Yes, same question from me....why was Shamou banned?

G

and always made everyone feel welcome here.

I"ve seen many posts where he made people feel welcome, but I've seen other posts where he nastily attacked people (including new posters) out of the blue. But I don't know what exactly caused him to be banned if he is banned.

seeker5 08-02-2007 12:12 PM

Perhaps it's just a temporary 10 day ban as a warning? I hope so, I have enjoyed a number of his posts.

Adrienne 08-02-2007 12:36 PM

We mods are working on it. We are trying to work a couple things out.

Adrienne :)

I hope you're successful. I was shocked to see he was banned. I can see where he might push some people's buttons sometimes, but I've never seen anything ban-worthy.

There were alot of us who were surprised as well. I promise we are trying to figure out what happened and courses of action as fast as we can.

Adrienne :)

Is it April 1st and I didn't realize it? Oh well, I imagine it will get sorted out somehow.

Andrew Brunelle 08-02-2007 02:08 PM

Maybe the mods gave him a well-deserved vacation. When you post 25 times a day, it starts to wear on you. A mandatory break seems fair, at least for a little while.

silicon toad2000 08-02-2007 02:18 PM

I'd like to publicly throw my support behind Shamou and wish the moderators luck strength and wisdom in the matter. (if I was godfearin man I'd pray god give it to them, I'm not but the sentiment is still there).

I second this! I found it surprising that Shamou has been banned while some other somewhat offensive posts remain.

{aspiring_to_clarity} 08-02-2007 03:48 PM

There were a couple of times when I had to go back and say "was that really Shamou" because I was sincerely offended by something he said to someone else (his posts directed to me were in fact always very kind and helpful).

Of course, there are a few people who I've cringed at when reading how they expressed themselves to someone else, so I don't see why he should be singled out if in fact that is what has occured. Does anyone know if it was a specific post?

Dan.Linehan 08-02-2007 04:14 PM

AFAIK its a post review, not a permanent ban. vBulletin just uses that status indicator by default when an account is temporarily disabled.

I could see it being helpful to temporarily ban anyone who regularly posts more than 10-20 times a day, both to wake them back up to the world around them and to keep any one person from flooding the forums. Hopefully people at least receive a warning and an opportunity to correct whatever they're doing.

I imagine that if mods created a poll to see how many people wanted to keep someone like Shamou on, most would offer him their support. Still, if he's anything close to how he described himself, his time may be better spent elsewhere anyhow, starting a new business or cruising with his wife in a corvette ;)

Savage 08-02-2007 04:51 PM

It's just temporary for now. There have been some complaints about Shamou's forum behavior, so the mods and I are looking into it. Shamou already knows about it. Hopefully we'll have it sorted out soon.

seeker5 08-02-2007 05:00 PM

Steve and the mods - Thanks for the explanation.

We are all big boys and girls Steve. Shamou was well loved and respected, if you know what is good for you and you don't end up with a revolt...tell us what happened here?

{aspiring_to_clarity} 08-02-2007 06:35 PM

He did tell us. He said there have been some complaints about his behavior. I have no doubt that Steve/Erin and the mods will make a well considered and just decision. If someone were to have a complaint about me or if I were to have a complaint about someone I would hope they would do the same.

Bruce Achterberg 08-02-2007 08:12 PM

No smoke OR mirrors... how boring, huh?

Gordon, the moderator/admin team aren't in the habit of hiding info from the forum community. From what I've seen, any forum-related questions that have been put to either Steve/Erin or the moderation team have been and always are answered.

You may think we have some super secret society where we all conspire against the non-mod/admin members, but I assure you, it's all pretty tame stuff that has to do with deleting spam and doing something about sticky situations that don't have an obvious solution (this situation with Shamou being one of them, hence why we're reviewing it carefully).

Plus you make it sound like Shamou is dead ("Shamou was well loved and respected"?). Hehe. :D

That's great -- we should give him a wake! Usually you have to be dead to get one, and you don't get to enjoy hearing about how much people cared about you and valued you and enjoyed you.

Here's to you, Shamou! I care about you and value you and enjoy you!

Love, (sniff, sniff)
Angela

Erki 08-02-2007 09:18 PM

Hey! Ban me too then! Please? :o :p

{aspiring_to_clarity} 08-02-2007 09:21 PM

No need, Erki. I love and care about you even if you are still allowed to post.:)

LOL. :)

Shamou's account has been re-enabled.

It was my decision to put his account in limbo while we reviewed it. In retrospect I think that was a mistake on my part, and I apologized to Shamou for that.

Angela 08-02-2007 10:12 PM

Welcome back, Shamou!!!
