I know shamou pretty well, and have so for a couple years now, and he's the guy that directed me to this site. I enjoy it, but unfortunately have: a. a full time (and then some) job, around 55-60 hours/week b. a toddler. And we all know that they never turn 'off'. c. night school for a few more months d. another site where I am a security analyst, and that chews up a lot of time, parsing logs and the ilk. e. can't get here from work, as it's listed as a personal site, as opposed to a forum site. Weird websense rules, and yes, as a console jockey, I could easily bypass them, but that's not exactly leading by example, now, is it? I do need to spend more time here, obviously, but I would like to go on record that because of him, I'm here, and I've directed a few like minded people here, and I've danced the dance with shamou enough times on virtually every subject under the sun to know that, while we certainly don't see eye to eye on everything, we are both logical enough to realize that the others opinion/viewpoint is nothing more than that, an opinion/viewpoint. I know I've learned a lot from that crazy canuck, and I hope he can say the same of me (but as he's got more knowledge and self-confidence in his pinkie than I'll see in a lifetime, I doubt it), and it's very, very refreshing to read the positive comments regarding a person that I consider myself lucky to have met, and lucky to debate with over some rather deep topics. Regardless, it's good to see that there are others who feel as I do about shamou. Good guy, bit crazy (canuck, remember?) and an extremely well-versed orator in just about any subject matter you'd care to discuss. Again, I'll try to make it a point to get here more often; bottom line, until night school finishes late in the year, it will be sporadic at best. Thanks again, v |

Shamou, I haven't been on here in a couple of days and missed this as it was happening, but had I been in the thick of it, I assure you I would have been in your corner fighting for you. I am still in shock of the episode even happening here, but glad it turned out as it should have. |

1. TSG… a forum mainly used to help people with PC problems but it also has a general forum where I was heavily involved in introducing PD… those folks are very conservative.. and I did get into some beautiful and nasty flaming wars… lots of fun though… 2. SuccessVibes… pretty good site… however not a very large membership… 3. Psychology&Self-help… English based… lots of psychologists there… long drawn out posts… PS. I don’t know if it is appropriate to post this info here… if not… any MOD can remove this post… I had enough problems for one week… . Last edited by Shamou; 08-03-2007 at 03:43 PM.

I have a good friend of mine who is a 'Business Persuasion Consultant'!! He paid about £2000 to join a very exclusive training forum. He got upset with the main operator of the forum and publicly disagreed with them on several things....then they banned my friend (after 1 month)....oh how I laughed!!! G |

So long as the member posting the links is adhering to the Forum Rules, we generally have no problems with members posting links. And I say "generally" because there may be some extreme situations that aren't covered by the forum rules, which would require the moderators/admin to give the matter special consideration and perhaps update/change the forum rules if necessary. Such situations are a rarity, though, and nothing to really be concerned about. If a particular member is unsure of what they can or cannot post, they are quite welcome to contact a moderator. That doesn’t mean we (ie. the moderators) want to be inundated with hundreds of PMs from members who haven’t read the forum rules (you can inundate Steve and Erin instead... kidding! So to sum up: Yes, Shamou can post links so long as he -- say it with me -- adheres to the Forum Rules. But remember, Shamou -- the great EYE of Sauron <cut to me making a circular shape with my fingers> is forever watchful! <que the wierd looks in my general direction> (Yes, that was a Lord of the Rings reference, and yes, I was kidding. Oh and yes, you may also call me a geek if you wish.

So, did Shamou get banned again? He posted earlier today and when I just read his post now, I noticed his status read "banned". I went to PM him, and the option to PM him is no longer there. So....? |

I hope he's not banned again. I've definitely disliked some of his posts, disagreed strongly with others, and been irritated by yet more, but this forum wouldn't be the same without him; he's contributed some good stuff.

Unfortunately Shamou has been permanently banned this time. After repeatedly asking him to stop derailing threads, he kept on doing so with seemingly little concern for how it was affecting others, especially in the I-M and Psi forums. The mods and I continued to receive complaints about him, several just in the past few days. We discussed this in the mods forum, and the consensus was that Shamou just wasn't going to follow the posted forum rules no matter how much we asked him to and would have to be dropped as a forum member. He's still free to read the forums, but he won't be able to post anymore. I emailed Shamou to let him know and told him I regret that it had to turn out like this. My responsibility is to preserve the value of these forums for all members. While I'm not a stickler for mindless rules, I think the rule set we have here is very fair and helps make this community so unique, open, and intelligent in its discussions. Every member agrees to adhere to the community rules when joining. I opted to close this thread, since I really don't want it to turn into a big divisive argument about whether Shamou should or shouldn't have been banned. I take responsibility for the decision, so if you wish to share your opinion on it with me, feel free to PM me. |
