Hello all, I stumbled onto this site when someone sent me a link about Polyphasic sleeping. Well, when I read Steve's blog, I told myself I'd try it when I had the time. Similar to Steve, the idea intrigued me and I'm mainly just trying it out to see if I can get something similar going. To pass time in the nights, I looked at some of his other pages. Liked reading some of the business and economic blogs. Well, anyway, the sleeping thing intrigued me, and I'm on vacation so I decided to try it out. I don't think I'll have much trouble adjusting to social differences since I'm somewhat antisocial usually. But physically I see this may be tough. I have 8 hour days coming up after the end of August due to classes/work, so probably I'll have to stop then if I don't get sick of it earlier (which is quite likely) but I guess I'll see.
I figure this forum would be a good place to go to in the middle of the night to pass time, and maybe also to gain knowledge from yall, especially those who tried the sleeping thing Steve did.
The following paragraph(s) just sums my experience to date, so if you don't want to read it, feel free not to!
I've been trying ever since the 14th. Aprox. nap at 230 630 1030 1430 1830 2230. Well, in short summary, first day I could never fall asleep in naps, 2nd day started falling asleep. Almost every other day I oversleep through a nap, if not even more often. One time I slept for 4 hours, and another time I even slept 6 or 7 hours!

My alarm clock never wakes me up so thats part of the problem. A louder alarm would wake up unintended people.

My biggest problem has been my naps from 2230 to 230 am because I get tired during this time quite often. I felt okay the first few days, quite tired the next few. So far the 19th was the hardest I think, all day I felt very tired. On the 20th I felt tired between 2230and 230, but my 230 nap and 630 nap must've been really good because I felt very much awake until about 830 where I suddenly became almost as sleepy as the 19th, and took my 1030 nap late at 1130 due to interruption. My other naps were also off schedule due to interactions with humans including eating. Last two days I've also been trying extra naps to help cope. Today, the 21st, I'm writing this and when I started writing I felt way tired, but now I'm a bit better since typing seemed to ease the coming feeling of sleep. So I guess so far I'm at a week, but I've overslept so much that I bet my naps aren't as well developed as others would be at this point. I'll keep at it for another week or so maybe and then decide whether its too much work or to keep going for longer. I'm not too worried about whether I ultimately fail or succeed, if I fail its because I didn't try hard enough no doubt. I am pretty lazy.
BTW, I recommend minesweeper to pass time when you're too tired to do other things. I did that for hours the night before, and being less bored seems to help prevent oversleeping and falling asleep for me anyway. Also, with extra time I actualy have read books... Unusual for me, since I never generally read a book unless required to do so by school. Once I feel more awake during the night hours, I'll probably do more stuff.
Sorry if this intro sucks/is incomprehensible... I'm tired.
