Gerasimov Roman is on a distinguished road
Default Privet!

Hello, I'm Gerasimov Roman. I'm from Russia, Moscow.
I found this great site recently. www.stevepavlina.com so like me, that I'v made a decision to register here.
I'm 30. And I have problems with motivation and accomplishing of goals. But I hope to get out of that trouble with your help.
I have small business in Moscow. It's production and sail of donuts in one shop. Dunkin' Donuts has not been come to Russia still, therefore my business living for a present ))
Sorry for my English: I just study. I would be happy, if you point to my most awful mistakes. Thanks.

Hello and welcome aboard Gerasimov Roman...

Thank you for deciding to become a member here... it is a great place to learn about motivation and anything that has to do with personal development...

I would also like to congratulate you on your English... it is quite good... However, you made a rather funny mistake... you said that you "sail" donuts... you should have said that you "sell" donuts...

No big deal though... your English is a lot better than my Russian...

Hope you like it here and that we get to share, learn and grow together...

Looking forward to reading your posts...

Thank you, Shamou, for your post. I see there are good people in this forum. I like that fact. Also thanks for pointing to my mistake. Certainly I sell donuts. Not sail.

It would be fun to sail on donuts though! Then you would have a tasty snack with you at all times...just don't eat too much.

Welcome Gerasimov! I don't even know how to say that much in Russian. Your English is quite good. In the US where I live, there is not much emphasis put on learning other languages. I think that's a mistake. I look forward to your posts.

Edit: Oh, I just noticed you said "production and sail of donuts" -- the proper way would be production and sale of donuts -- same pronunciation, different meaning.

I am sure someone who really knows will answer, but I am guessing it's a greeting. Hello, maybe?

That was my assumption as well, I just found it odd that two posters used it in their greeting and I've never heard it before!

"Privet" means "Hi" in Russian. So it is a convenient way to say "Hi, I'm a russian speaker" in one word

I understand foreign humor slightly hard usially, but in that case I'v seen the joke.
You say, that there is not much emphasis put on learning other languages in US, and that's a mistake.
But I think that's not exactly so. Almost all people in world speak English. And you have not great necessity to learn other languages. So, may be Chinese
Thanks for your pointing to my "sail". Now, I will be remembering that all my life. ))) By the way, how correct I use articles (the, a)? Is right use the articles very important in English? The enquiry is that there are no articles in the russian, so it is bet difficult for me.
You are from US? It's great! I like your movies, cars (recently I'v even bought the Chrysler Sebring) and lifestyle. You are more uninhibited than us.

2 Ilya
Thank you! I will be seen the russian thread surely.

2 Carl Carlson IV Privet means hello. And that is all

I think that it is a mistake for us not to learn all of the other beautiful languages in the world. But we think we are so great and expect everyone to learn our language. I would hate to see other languages disappear because we move to everyone everywhere speaking English. But perhaps you disagree. What do you think?

Articles are important in English. I think you are doing well so far. If I were to rewrite the following quote:

Quote:
Is right use the articles very important in English? The enquiry is that there are no articles in the russian, so it is bet difficult for me.
Is it correct that using articles is very important in English? The inquiry is that there are no articles in Russian, so it is a bit difficult for me.

English is the hardest language to learn in my opinion, except maybe for Chinese. I think you are doing really well. When to use articles is probably one of the more difficult things to learn. I am a native English speaker and still have not mastered all of the rules of the language.

We are very uninhibited here. I don't know if it's always a good thing, but I am glad to hear you like us.

I look forward to talking to you more.

Privet!
To you too, I'm not Russian, but I just finished a year of Russian in college and wanted to say hi. While mine is still pretty bad, your English is really good, as learning any language is tough, but worth it.
Poka!

Hi! Sorry for my long disappear. Business takes a lot of my time. ((
{aspiring_to_clarity}, you know, I think you have not reasons to worry about disappearing other languages. All national features have an effect on its languages. National mentality, thinking – all of that project to language. For example, English has strict order of words, because you are pragmatic and orderly people. In Russian you may dispose the words in any order and you will be understood. Russians think slightly different.
So while other cultures are existing, other languages will be existing. It is my opinion.
Thank you for your explain about articles. I see you are conversable man.

jamestl2, thanks a lot for your privet! How name the city, in which you finished the college?

I want to show my face. Do you mind?

Nice picture. You are very handsome (and I'm a woman, just so you know).

Thanks for your thoughts about language. I can see that you are probably right. I do hope people keep their culture and languages because our differences are very beautiful.

See you around the forums.
