You know... it's funny you say that. I used to want to be male. I actually cried when I first got my period and asked my mom why I wasn't a boy. And I've gone through some ♥♥♥♥ just for being a girl, as have most of us, probably. But I definitely am comfortable being female and now I love it. I wouldn't switch for anything. And it's not at all in the sense of "geez, I'm glad I'm not a man" -- just that I love being a woman.

You ever notice how *normal* everybody pretends a discussion like this? This is like sitting around discussing how to best wipe the crap from your ass, except like five times as vile and disgusting.

(I really haven't read much of this thread, btw. Just making a point.)

Default Menstrual ... Cups?!

I'm sorry. I'm not going to read a single word in this thread. I don't know what menstrual cups are, and, frankly, I don't want to know.

But, thanks, to whomever, for making at least one of us wince everytime we read the title to this thread.

Actually I think there was one a year or so back.
I seem to recall it was on the merits of showering or otherwise afterwards. I shan't derail this thread by discussing it further

But guys - don't you realize how EASY you have it now?

Interesting, thanks for responding. I've experienced the same with tampons, they can definitely make the cramps worse.

Yeah, exactly. Most women menstruate for huge percentages of their lives. All fertile women menstruate.

If you think it's gross, just don't read the thread. I've seen guys discussing their reproductive organs here and girls don't jump in all going "euuuwwwww." It's really immature behavior. You wake up with erections. We bleed for a few days every month. I think we can all deal with that.

I sort of wonder, RR, James, and Beingist... do you refuse to have sex when your partner is on her period?

Its not immature to tell you that discussing the clumpy blood that flows out your vagina is disgusting. Or rather, its no more immature than saying that a discussion about feces and vomit is disgusting. Or snot.

Its ok that its disgusting. It doesn't make you less attractive or anything. Its just gross that you publicly discuss it.

I think whether you are grossed out or not is the last thing on our minds. Personally, I've found this thread very informative and it has answered questions that I have been meaning to ask. Telling women that it is gross to talk about normal bodily functions publicly is a great way to alienate them.

Aww... you don't like hearing about the time I dropped my cup on the floor and turned my bathroom into a vampire rodeo? What about how much fun it is to pour, since the consistency of fresh (start-of-period) blood is somewhere in between water and snot? (That's something I wasn't too sure about before I started using a cup, since everything I'd ever used was absorbent.) Or how about having to enlarge the holes in my cup with a safety pin, because blood was getting stuck in them? (Tip: if you're having sealing problems, enlarging the holes can help with that too.) What about how interesting it is to find out exactly how much menstrual fluid you lose in a month? (since the cup is marked.)

Oh, and did you know that you can take the stains off by filling the cup with hydrogen peroxide, pouring that into an 8oz glass, filling the rest of the glass with water, and leaving the cup inside it overnight? (There's some useful information. )

Guys do that kind of thing all the time, except it's usually worse because it's about spreading $%^# around, not cleaning it up.

Women bleed from their vaginas. Big f'in deal. We expect them to swallow our cum so hey, if they want to have a period discussion or two it's not going to bother me.

Menstruation is a normal bodily function.

So why are you reading it? The title of the thread is "menstrual cups". What did you expect it to be about? Tea parties? Fluffy kittens? If you find women's bodily functions disgusting, why do you even look at a thread like this?

The thing is, if you were to think that, let's say, sweaty naked men were gross, you should stay out of the men's sauna, you know? You wouldn't go in there, have a good look around, and then announce to everyone in the sauna that naked, sweaty men are disgusting. But you do think it's okay to come into a thread that is very clearly labelled as being about menstruation and tell the women here that our bodily functions are many times more vile and disgusting than excrement.

If I saw a thread with a title like "methods for cleaning the crap from your arse" I wouldn't participate in it, unless I had some interest in methods for cleaning the crap from my arse. And if I DID wander into the thread under the illusion that it was about fluffy kittens or tea parties, I wouldn't announce to everyone in the thread who wanted a clean arse that they were vile and disgusting.

But, hey, maybe it's just me who thinks that if you can't stand the blood you should stay out of a menstruation thread.

Also, the fact that you consider menstruation to be five times more "vile and disgusting" than excrement certainly gives pause for thought.

Nobody complains if women talk about orgasms. That's a natural process involving the same general areas as menstruation (women do experience uterine contractions during orgasm). Bet you wouldn't think it was "vile and disgusting" for women to talk about their orgasms, though.

Would you also complain if we were talking frankly about childbirth, or is that "vile and disgusting", too? It's a completely normal process, but there's a lot of blood and goo and bodily fluids and other stuff involved, not to mention an object the size of a watermelon being ejected through an opening the size of a lemon. And if childbirth is not "vile and disgusting", why is menstruation?

Shower after a "number two"? Am I alone with this habit? Poll

Look, a thread about cleaning the crap from your ass! And I only searched for "bidet." It turned up four threads. I bet if I used other keywords, I'd get more.

Funnily enough, James, you participated in that thread, and it wasn't to call anybody disgusting... so you have actually publicly discussed how to clean the crap from your ass.

Just making a point.

Its obvious from the thread tittle what thread is about, don't like it than don't come in, it's simple.

I admit I'm slightly cheesed not being able to turn my shower into a Dexter murder scene.

I mustve hit a nerve. My point wasn't that there shouldn't be a thread about this. My point was how when there are threads like this how everybody sits and talks about these disgusting things (such as clumpy blood) as if its totally not gross to talk about. I was just saying that if it were a poop thread, there would be a whole different tone.

But, judging by the way some of you responded to me, you'd think I just suggested selling women for land. Lmao.

Funny thing, but last night, I opened this thread by accident, and what post do I see first, but this one? Ah, how funny the universe is, sometimes.

If you wince at the thought of menstruation, I'd say that's your own issue to sort out. Women menstruate. It's just basic biology.
Well, so are bowel movements, and I would likely wince if I saw a thread on that topic, as well.

But, indeed, you are right. My issue. I'm working on it. Sorry for the interruption. Carry on.

as if its totally not gross to talk about.
um- yah - you still don't get it do ya?

for women, it's NOT gross to talk about it. It IS totally normal. it's just a normal part of everyday for half the human population.

now, your opinion may be that it's gross - and that's fine cause of course everyone has an opinion - but it's just an opinion. it's not 'fact' that discussing these things is "gross" .... that's only in the eye of the beholder.

i used to go with a Native American man who was fine with all of it - he had no issues about blood or the workings of the body, he considered it part and parcel of the biology of life. when i was going through a very bad period of problems from fibroids - including the gushing and clotting - he had zero issues; he helped me through it in an amazingly supportive and non-judgemental way, never made me feel bad or unclean or gross, or any of the other judgements some men put on women's menstrual stuff. he helped me on numerous times with the mess, supported me through the public embarassment, figured out ways to deal with it, even in the ER when he thought i was bleeding to death he never left my side, literally stood right there and mopped up the blood, reassured me, then ran for the doc....

thank goodness for men like him in this world.
