Default I'm Ready for Change!

Hello, this is my first post! I found this forum tonight while searching for a place that offered support, encouragement and inspiration to those who are consciously trying to better themselves.

I'm in a rut. A physical, emotional, mental, spiritual rut. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. I know what I want to do and what I need to do but I can't seem to do it! I am the queen of new beginnings and abandoned projects. It dawned on me the other day that I needed someone to be accountable to, a cheerleader to guide me toward victory. So, I got online and started to research life coaches, quickly realize I'm way too broke to work with one, and decided to try something else -this!

There are a few areas of my life that I want to address right away: my parenting, my diet and my spiritual practices. I hope to see you on the forums!

Thanks! Do you have any idea why my profile photo won't show up on my posts?

Hi welcome to the forum!

If you are referring to your avatar picture, you need to interact with the community and post a bit more and before the forum allows you to have one up.

Hey!
I'm new here too! And have come upon this site for more or less the same reasons. I've never considered hiring a life coach or a "cheerleader" as you put it, not just because they're ridiculously over priced, but I think the whole point of personal development is to build the strength and capability to tackle life on your own. At least that's what I want to get out of it haha.

Hello! From one Michelle to another

Maybe some of these resources will be helpful for you; they were extremely helpful for me and I am in the process of working on almost everything that you are interested in.

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsch (Despite the title, you don't need to be religious to read and learn from this book)

psychicbutsane.com
liveyourlegend.net
wakeupcloud.com

And it probably goes without saying, stevepavlina.com and erinpavlina.com

It'd be kind of fun to get a few people together and have threads in which we share our goals and report progress later, maybe on a weekly basis or something. Perhaps that would help with the accountability aspect.

Those are good books.

Hi Emerald Rain (Michelle!!) thanks so much for those suggestions and links. I look forward to digging in. I'll check the library for those books. What an excellent idea you have about having a small group who work on goals together. I wonder if it's possible to create a group for that? I'm still getting familiar with the website so I'm not so certain of the features yet.

I know how corny this is going to sound but I'll say it anyway. The Power of Now completely changed my life. It got me into psychic, spiritual and personal development so it's always going to have a really special place in my heart. Have you read any similar books that you would recommend?

You're welcome, I hope that you enjoy them.

It looks like we can create groups here: Personal Development for Smart People Forums - Social Groups

I found a specific article on Live Your Legend that I think is perfect for this thread: 11 Steps to Insane Focus: Do More of What Matters | Live Your Legend

Also, I was re-reading your original post and want to say that you shouldn't be ashamed of starting and stopping things! You have to experiment to find what works for you. If it doesn't resonate with you, there's absolutely nothing wrong with moving onto something that does.

Oh! And Steering By Starlight by Martha Beck. That's a great into book because it's pretty down to earth about most things. The other books that I suggested require a lot more open mindedness.

Emerald, a few years back I read "Finding Your Own North Star" by Martha Beck. She's great! My current bedside table is filled with a half dozen books I am part-way through (I don't know why I can't seem to read less than 3 books at a time!) so it will probably be the new year before I can start anything new but I'll be looking for those titles. (Especially "The Power of Now").

Thanks for what you said about starting and stopping things. That's so wise. (And as a busy working/night schooling mom I don't need anything else to add guilt to my plate!)

Let's create a group! If others join, great. If not, it would still be cool to have a place where we can work on goals together.

Any suggestions for a group name?
