This is my first post and a friend of mine sent me to a link of this website a couple weeks ago and got really into it. I really like the 10 reasons not to get a job article as I feel the same way. My interests are spending time with family; wife and 2 kids (which I don't get to do a lot), computer programming and repair, playing golf and basketball. I'm 30 (almost 31) and have been working in an engineering office the last 6 years. As the article said, the beginning was good, as I was learning a lot. Now it seems like I do the same repetitive tasks everyday and am not learning anything really. I work in a large company feel like a number. Lately I've been feeling like "There must be more to life than this?" What if I lose my job, I supposedly have 6 years experience but "not really". Recently, the last 6 months or so I've been doing a lot of thinking about venturing off on my own and have had some ideas but just can seem to see them through. Plus with a full time job and 2.5 hour commute (to work and back) it's tough to do side work when I get home. My dream is to work for myself. I figure if I'm going to work at least 50 hours a week I should at least do it on a slightly more flexible schedule, not when I'm told. Like I said, I think about this A LOT and figure this is a good place to start. Thanks all, Mike |
