I was first introduced to Steve Pavlina by somebody over at the
Simple Living Discussion Forums and have found it extremely interesting. About a week after I started reading his blog, starting with
'10 reasons you should never get a job', I was temporarily laid off by my employer, which was a bit like a bite on the seat of the pants at just the right time. If I wasn't motivated to get up and change my life before being canned, I was definitely motivated afterwards.
I was not in a position to start my own business yet, so fortunately, I was re-hired a few weeks back. Going in to business for myself has been the plan for many years now, it's just that right now, I am quite literally in the wrong place. I have been planning on collaborating on several creative projects with some friends in Upstate NY for years. The only problem is that I am in VA, and my house is one long continuous project that is seemingly never completed. The end is in sight, but I probably won't be able to sell until the spring. I don't think I can sell the house 'as is', without finishing all of the work that I started, just because I still owe money on it and would like to have a cash reserve to pay the bills while I'm building my future business. I wish internet collaboration over the creative projects would work, but in this case, all it would do is hold me back from relocating to NY.
Anyhow, I am glad the forums are up, and while I may not always have the time to be as active a participant as I would like, I do hope that I will be able to contribute and benefit from time to time.
