Default Hey, glad to be here

Hi everyone, I was introduced to the idea of self-talk by such books as "What to Say When You Talk To Yourself" by Shad Helmstetter and "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. I'm pursuing my dreams of stardom as a musician, and I'm hoping self-talk can help me get there.

As Helmstetter suggests, I've been using recorded self-talk each morning and night to help me with motivation and confidence. However, it's been 5 weeks of consistent use and I'm getting pretty inconsistent results. I'm feeling more confident, but not much more motivated, and my product hasn't really been improving. I'm hoping I can learn some more effective methods in this forum, and hear the success stories of others.

Welcome to the forums, tylersnard.

I am a professional musician, too. If there is anything in particular you'd like feedback or a fresh perspective on, I'm at your service.

I'm a classical singer professionally and also play the piano (unprofessionally) ... What about you?

Napolean Hill has been important to me as well. I founded a mastermind group this year and the benefits have been enormous.

Very cool, I'd love to hear some of your music if you have any online. I play guitar, sing, and write pop music. If you have any motivational/confidence-bulding techniques to share with me, specifically as they relate to music, I would very much appreciate it.

Hmmmm.... do you mean motivation in relation to practicing and confidence in relation to performing?

A bit, yes. I think I practice enough, but I need motivation to write better songs, and confidence that I am capable of doing so.

In my experience one cannot force motivation or inspiration. If you feel neither of those things, then it is a sign you are not yet in alignment with the action you would like to be taking. Align yourself with what you want, and you will find motivation and inspiration arise naturally as positive side effects.

Also, in my opinion, confidence can be built from the inside out by working on yourself, your beliefs and issues and raising your vibration or from the outside in by working on your song writing, putting yourself out there while allowing feedback from other musicians and listeners and by cultivating your musical craft like working on technique, solfège, etc.

The two approaches to building confidence go hand in hand. In order to be emotionally healthy, joyful and successful, you'll have to cultivate both.
