Hi everyone, I'm Betsy. I'm 21 years old. I'm a college student at Stephen F. Austin State University or SFA (sex, fun, and alcohol for those familiar with the school). I'm majoring in art and specializing in photography. I'm starting my marketing minor during the fall semester. I sell stock photography online and work part-time at a marketing firm as an assistant to the graphic designer. I'm a pretty shy person (I had a sheltered childhood), and I would like to overcome that. My relationship with my lover and best friend of three years ended about 2 months ago. We are no longer able to communicate without drama, so we don't. This relationship had lead me to question many of my relationships and my life decisions that I have made in my young adulthood. I feel like I'm not living up to my potential, mostly because I'm not sure what it is. I'm having lots of serious questions about my life direction. I love intelligent conversation, although I'm not much brighter than your average Jane. I'm motivated by action. I love working with my hands: making, designing, planning. I'm opinionated. I'm honest. I think I'm a pretty good person, even if I'm not nice all the time. I love puns. I think that about some up my hand. I looking forward to exchanging wisdom with you all. |

Hi Betsy, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your recent breakup. I know from experience how difficult they can be. When an ex-girlfriend and I broke up a couple years ago, we agreed we should be friends and that we needed to respect each other and not create drama. Of course, a few months later, we were arguing bitterly and created a lot of drama! I hope this forum helps you well. Again, welcome! |

Well I do not know about you being as smart as your average Jane Austen, but you are a brilliant writer. I have no doubt about that at all. I loved reading what you wrote. I would not be surprised at all if you became a world famous writer. If it were the beginning of a book, I would want to read more. I have read lots of books. Also many times the best writers have painful things happen to them that they write about. The writing is actually therapeutic for them. Avril LaVigne says that her best song writing comes from bad experiences with men. There was one woman that was such a bad writer that she was not writing and could not find a job (like you did) so she was on welfare. She was just your average Joanne. Do you feel bad for her? But she needed money so she decided to write a book to make some money. Now she is richer than the Queen of England. Her name is J.K. Rowling and she wrote the Harry Potter books. I am not saying that that is the purpose of your life. I am just saying that it is something that you have a great talent for. Some of the best talkers, who are not shy at all, are illiterate. But I do know what the purpose of your life is. It is to experience much more happiness than you ever imagined possible. In fact everything that has happened in your life, including best friend and boyfriend, was to help you to find this perfect peace and supreme happiness that is inside of you. Here is a webpage all about this. Please do me a favor and get a blog and write in it when you have time. I would love to read it. Then you can go on Twitter and expose your blog to thousands of people. You can make money by having Google ads on your blog. They pay you every time someone clicks on an ad. Then there was that guy who tried to be a good writer for many years but no one would buy his books. He was about to quit but tried again and his book won the Turner Tomorrow Fellowship award for being the best book about saving our planet. This time he presented all of his facts in a fictitious story. The Austin Chronicle (is Nacogoches near Austin) says about this book "is as suspenseful, inventive and socially urgent as any fiction or nonfiction you are likely to read this or any year." Then he wrote more books that were popular and some schools require students to read his books. His name is Daniel Quinn and he wrote Ishmael, about a telepathic gorilla! I love your writing. Please note that Thomas Jefferson was the U.S. President but was socially awkward and not a good talker. Some say that he may have been autistic. So why was he elected President? He was a brilliant writer and wrote a page. He wrote the Declaration of Independence! Also this page with advice for teen girls has a psychology professor talking about the benefits of writing a journal. Last edited by ginkgo; 08-09-2009 at 11:50 AM. |

I like the idea of putting my life into fiction. I value my privacy, and my personal life has an air of self-imposed uneventfulness to it right now. I can also use fiction to explore things that are not happening in my life whether I would want them to or not. I'm not really sure what I said to make you think I am unemployed like Rowling though... | |
